The reopened Cafe Eccell in the newly remodeled space (old Luby's) is familiar in good ways: casual but not rowdy, relaxing and uncluttered space, nice bar. I had hoped to see some new adventurousness in the menu, but it's pretty much the same one. And I was disappointed in the fact that there are television screens all over, which to... More

I was taken to this restaurant for an impromptu work lunch. We did not have a reservation, so we decided to sit in the bar, where there was no wait and access to the full menu. The service was quick and friendly. I ordered the Greek salad with blackened shrimp (the waiter suggested blackened, and he was spot on). It... More

Listen up Cafe Eccell fans! Many of us were sad when they tore down the historic Cafe Eccell and doubted things would ever be the same. Who would ever guess that the old Luby's could be turned into a bigger and better Cafe Eccell! They managed to keep much of the flavor of the old place but it is better... More

We are so glad they have reopened. We were told they actually brought some of the old windows from the previous location and installed them in the remodel of the old Luby's where they are located. New menu - we missed the signature onion rings, but they say they may bring them back to the menu. Crab cake were excellent... More

The wait staff was phenomenal. Very attentive and made great recommendations regarding food and wines. My friend is vegan and they were very accommodating to her dietary restrictions. The voodoo salmon was amazing! Cooked perfect and the strawberry tart was sinful!

The new location is in the old Lubys building on TX Ave and the interior redesign is great. Certainly does not resemble the old cafeteria. The food has been great both times I have eaten there. The tomato soup might be the best I have ever had. We found the crab cakes (appetizer) were also amazing. Very fresh. The one... More

Open in the former Luby's location. Very nicely done interior. Friendly helpful staff, gourmet food. A bit pricey for the fish and steaks but plenty of affordable items as well. Pizza looked good. Had the pulled pork tacos. Wonderful flavor combinations. A light meal though. The rice side was bland and dry. Dessert creme brûlée was adequate. We went early... More

I love Cafe Eccell. It is a special place for a nice dinner. Almost everything I have ever had there is good. I especially like the Strawberry Tart for dessert, it is yummy.

This restaurant had some of the best and freshest fish in the area. There were certainly other great menu items too. After a battle with the city and a developer, they felt there was no option but to close this location. There are rumors that they have their eyes on another location in town, but time will tell whether that... More

We had eaten at the Cafe Eccell many times in the past and always enjoyed it, including as lately as a month ago.Good food, great help and nice uptown menu with decent prices.Yum. Last weekend we were headed to meet my brother and his college bound son there and I called to make a reservation and voila- discovered the building... More
