Some of the best brisket I've had in Austin

In the words of a member of my family "JJ's is surprising in the breadth of their menu, while being really good at everything!". Let me be clear, this is not the healthy food that one should eat every day, but wow, is it good! Brisket I would rank only behind Muellers out in Taylor with a cost... read more

Picked up my order tonight. I was in charge of dinner so I ordered 3 brisket sandwiches, brisket potato and 3 migas with cheese tacos (overstuffed). The green salsa goes well with the migas tacos. I have been coming here once every two months for yearsand I have not found a reason to stop. Their fried chicken is very good... More

It had been awhile since eating here but found that the restaurant is in need of some clean up. Floors and tables were in need of cleaning. The food and their specials are always very good and I highly recommend. I had the catfish special they have on Fridays, but their other entrees are very good. The barbeque is some... More

We used JJ's for a family get together. We picked up brisket and sausage and all the fixings and brought it back. The dinner was just what was needed for 9 people. Not exceptional but no complaints from anyone. Later in the week we also had breakfast there. We had been told their breakfast was great but no one really... More

John, the Pit Master delivers the most tender brisket I've ever had. Succulent in taste and texture, it barely stayed on the fork. Beef ribs is another speciality. Evenly cooked with a touch of bark, a hint of seasoning only slightly detectable behind a full beef flavor. A bold Zin would have been great with these. It's BYOB, beer or... More

Basic BBQ joint and decent place if you have kids. Nothing special, but not bad either. It's just a small town joint. If you are expecting Franklin's keep on truckin'.

We began eating there when it opened many years ago. We used to eat there at least 3 times a month. In the past two years the quality has seriously declined. The last time I ate there, the brisket sandwich and sides were not of good quality. They have changed the cold slaw and potato salad recipes or are making... More

I actually have only been here for breakfast several times and once for an early lunch. Our family loves the breakfast tacos/salsa and good ol' flap jacks for the kids. I've also tried their famous cheddar melt burger...I didn't really "get it the point" of it and will not order it again. I need to go back and try some... More

They were running a brisket and sausage special so I ordered it. I also asked for a bun to make a BBQ sandwich and was handed a huge one. To me what makes a BBQ sandwich is the smoked meat and the all important sauce. I stacked the large bun with a double layer of brisket (still leaving more on... More

Excellent smoky brisket with good flavor. Sauce is not necessary but adds to a sandwich. Good sides. BUT, the special (a party melt on Texas toast) was burned instead of cooked. Obviously the griddle was too hot and the sandwich left too long. Should never have been served that way. The lesson is to order barbecue at a barbecue joint....
