On our visits to Texas, we often drive from the Fort Worth/Dallas area just to eat at Underwood's. My husband and I grew up during their zenith, when they had many locations, and we really enjoy going to this last remaining one whenever possible. The only problem is deciding what to have. The barbecue beefsteak is very unique, and always... More

This was a buffet style of meal. There were a number of choices from BBQ to catfish. I tried the fried catfish and it was very good. Large fillets rather than little chunks. If there was a problem, it was having too many choices. I couldn't fit them all on my try. Service was as expected for this part of... More

My boyfriend has been going to Underwoods for years so when we were in town to visit his mother we stopped in. The meat was good but not great and the portion could have been bigger. The veggies had almost no flavor. I liked the corn and the green beans were way over cooked. Everything else seems to just be... More

You pick out your meat choice, which they serve up, then you add whatever sides you'd like, including 3 cobblers for dessert, and a beverage. Family oriented. Veggies were overcooked, so it was just like being in Grandma's kitchen. Service was terrific. I had the ribs at the recommendation of another customer, and wish it had been a bigger portion.

Drove through Brownwood on our way to Austin. The place was packed for lunch on a Tuesday. All lunches include as many sides as you want plus cobbler, fresh hot rolls and a drink of your choice. It was fantastic. Real sothern hospitality. Don't miss this place.

We usually eat in this restaurant about once a month. We usually order the BBQ beefsteak. Our experience is always excellent. For the price, they offer the entree plus all vegetables, fantastic rolls, and awesome cobbler. I have never had a bad meal here.

Overall the food was good. The ribs were cooked well and fell off the bone. You get what you pay for. A lot of food. The sides were good also though I really didn't care for the beans. The BBQ sauce had a vinegar taste though I am more in liking with a sweeter sauce. I wish they would have... More

Underwoods Cafeteria in Brownwood, TX is a Texas institution. Started as a barbecue place and has been a favorite for years. I was passing through Brownwood and hungry for some good Texas barbecue. What a disappointment. The brisket and sausage were stale and just didn't taste good. It had been sitting out all day under heat lamps. The sauce was... More
