The Old Savannah Trail, a Hill Country legend

The Old Savannah Trail or OST is the most well known restaurant in Bandera, Texas and likely for 50 miles in all directions. Mosey on back to the John Wayne room, kick up your heels on one of their long tables and take it in. The servings are generous and quite good. We especially enjoy the... read more

we love going to the OST during our stays in Bandera at Flying L. We have enjoyed many different dishes here. I love the Taco salad the best but havent had a bad meal here yet. THe ambiance is Texan and welcoming and we can tell the locals like it too. Usually thats a good barometer of whats good in... More

Excellent cheese enchiladas! The fajitas were soft, but too chewy. The prices are reasonable. The don't stay open late, so go early for fresh food.

Been here many times since 1978 and the food is always pretty decent. The restaurant is definately a small town, long-standing tradition. When you step through the doors, you are transported back in time to when this was a true Western town. Every once in awhile you'll see a horse tied up to the front post outside. You can saddle... Have been here before for breakfast and it was decent. Thought we'd try it for dinner and it was a big disappointment! Food was mediocre. Service was poor. Salad bar was infested with fruit flies. Table was dirty and sticky. Won't be going back...

OST can be counted on. In a world were establishments are trying to keep up with the Food Network, OST is one that exceeds expectations by just doing what a consumer expects. This time we visited for breakfast and the self serve coffee bar was the first clue we would be okay. It is a "cowboy" breakfast selection with rib... More

We breakfasted in Bandera at the OST because of all the raves by locals of having an "experience" to remember. We found the restaurant itself interesting because of its unique presence in the community and being that it is so old, but the food was really average to poor and the wait staff unremarkable. It didn't help that we went... More

We were led to believe that OST was the best place to eat in Bandera. If so, they are in trouble! Food was less than adequate; service was willing but unremarkable; setting was interesting if you are really into John Wayne. Would not go back!

If you like the old fashioned home cooked breakfast, this is your spot. Fresh coffee, great food, western style ambiance and friendly staff. quick service will get you in and out very fast, or you can sit and enjoy your stay as long as you like.

W had a very good cheap dinner. Th enchiladas were vey good. My husband had the fajitas which were very good. The cobbler for desert was ok but not great-would not recommend it. The saddles for bar stools were fun
