This place was recommended to us last year from our guide at the nearby caverns, but we didn't get to try it then. While back in the area, we stopped and gave this place a try. The service was good, the place was comfortable, the staff was friendly but the food was just average.

We read all the reviews about this being the place where most local locals eat, so we tried it. Everyone had burgers, and they were as stated, very good!

This was suggested by a few locals. The food was ok but nothing that exciting. I think it might be a local's favorite partly because the food is cheap. But mostly everything is fried. We had the trout and fried grouper dinners. The grouper was better.

After a 12 hr drive to Tennessee, we were looking for a nice meal. Food & the service were just OK. Nothing memorable.Had a BLT, not much bacon on the sandwich. Prices were reasonable. Maybe breakfast is better.

This is such a cute and homey restaurant! It feels straight out of Mayberry, in a good way. We each had a HUGE fish sandwich which was served on fantastic bread, and we shared a piece of pecan pie for dessert. We walked out very satisfied, and all for less than $20. It was obvious that many of the locals... More

Last day before closing for season. Should have closed a week earlier. They were out of everything. Friend had a hamburger which she said was good. I had the fried cod sandwich, which was absolutely tasteless. They only had one type of dessert left and they advertise the many cakes they serve. Upon seeing it was the last day of... More

We've been to Townsend several times and usually ended up at Subway because of poor offerings; however, this time we checked Trip Advisor and found the Black Bear. Other times we have visited after this restaurant closes for the season. We found it to be friendly, cozy, and crowded with tourists and locals alike. We actually went twice. The first... More

We arrived late for supper but still got excellent service and food. They were closing for the season at the end of the week so some menu items were already eliminated but we were able to find something we wanted and we weren't disappointed. The chef salads are huge and delicious. The grilled chicken dinner was good as were their... More

The atmosphere and staff were nice. From the looks of the place, I figured I'd be having some good country local homemade food. Maybe it was... I had meatloaf. It tasted like it had a higher bread content than I am used to. It wasn't bad, just not all that good. In my opinion. (That's a thing about meatloaf...soooo many... More
