It had been over 30 years since I had dined at The Soup Kitchen. I was still in high school. It was exactly as I remembered it. I don't think anything has changed. I got tamale chili and cornbread. I have to say my soup was not that warm and my butter wouldn't melt on my cornbread. It is quick... More

A great little place, especially for lunch during a busy work day, a wide variety of good soups, only downside is that it's hard to find if you don't know the area and the parking is limited.

I have ate here twice with friends and with my husband. First time I got the cabbage soup. It was good. I like the assortment of breads to choose from. The second time I tried their chili. It was good. It was made with a white bean instead of kidney beans. My husband got the Tomato soup. it was heavy... More

Came here with friends and upon arrival I got the wonderful hometown feel of Oak Ridge in the Soup Kitchen. Outside the constantly evolving daily menu was posted and being checked out by passersby. I ordered the tomato and dill soup, with half a cheese sandwich. Everything was fresh and the bread tasted as if it was just baked. The... More

I ordered the chili with a side of cheese bread and sweet iced tea. The portions are big, and very filling. Drink refills free. They offer a variety of different soups and breads each day, all homemade. They get quite a big lunch crowd so my tip would be to go early for lunch. Such a nice change from the... More

This is a neighborhood restaurant. It may not look much from the outside, but they line up out the door just to get in. There are a number of soups for each day, always adaily special. They also have sandwiches made to order.

I enjoy coming here when I am in Oak Ridge. So why only 3 stars when I recommend it for lunch? It's just that it doesn't have any really outstanding soup that I just have to have. It's an older building that's sort of funky and not all that comfortable and private for conversation. You take a tray through a... More

We saw a piece on this place on PBS by Chef Garrett of Knoxville. We were in knoxville on Saturday and thought we would try it. Their hours were 11 - 2. We went in and let them know we had never been there, but rather than explain a few things to us, we got a strange look. we backed... More

Hadn't been to soup kitchen for a while. We ordered from the office- the food was great and the order was correct! The potato bacon soup is EXCELLENT and I heard someone comment on how many veggies the veggie soup contained. I had 1/2 sandwich, 1/2 soup. The bread on the sandwich was awesome! Highly recommend for any visitors to... More

Good soups offered in 7+ options plus chili daily. Unfortunately, they have recently stopped offering free soup refills. :-( Have always found the soups somewhat bland, but salt, pepper, and hot sauce are on the tables. Should note that Tori makes the best grilled cheese sandwich.
