Good Food, But Why Tell Us You Do Not Have A Bar ???

I made two call to The Standard, the first was to see if there was a problem with cigarette smoke in the dining room, my husband read somwhere that diners could smell it while eating. If that were the case it would have been a "no go" for us. The second was to see if they had a bar where... read more

My friends and I were fortunate enough to gain access into the private club on the upstairs level of The Standard. We were in town for the NHL All Star game and had a couple of other folks mention it was the best place in town to relax and smoke a cigar - and they were right. This isn't a... More

Do you want it all? Great food, beautifully presented, efficient and courteous service, knowledgeable staff, elegant southern ambience, and treated like you're the most valued client ever? You can have it all at The Standard. Best steak I've had anywhere. My wife ordered the Sea Bass. Slightly blackened, fresh, delectable, moist and flavorful. Thank God she couldn't eat it all... It's not often you stumble upon a steak place you would describe as "charming". The Standard is definitely a wonderful exception. Located in the Smith House dating back to the late 1840's, the architecture alone makes it one of a kind. The food is great - definitely try the Fried Green Tomatoes w/ Crab are amazing!! The Fried Green Tomatoes... More

My husband and I were in town visiting family over the holidays. We also were celebrating our 18th wedding anniversary. I had a family member tell me to try another restaurant downtown. But we did not, we stuck with The Standard, and so glad we did. From the point of arrival, the valet knew our name and offered congratulations of... More

I liked this place. It seemed pretty old fashioned - but in a classy way. Food was good quality. No problems that I can remember. Place was a little small - but I guess that makes it exclusive?

We had the opportunity to book a New Years Eve dinner at The Standard as I had made the reservation a few months out. We arrived and were greeted by a kind and respectable Valet. He opened my wife's door and led us inside. Once inside we were greeted by Billy the Maitre d', who promptly lead us to our... More

The Standard is over priced and doesn't live up to expectations. It has pretentious touches yet major shortcomings. Our waiter struck us as inexperienced and inattentive. He left dirty plates on table entirely too long for a place that charges these prices. He must've been working private parties as the downstairs dining rooms were nearly empty. They also encourage you... More

No, we did not eat here, but we talked to the manager outside as we were walking by and he took a lot of time explaining the old history and the new to us. We didn't get a chance to eat as we were leaving the next day but we will try it on our next visit to Nashville.

I've driven past this old home for 40 years but tonight was my first time to venture inside. A dinner business meeting with my wife and an out-of-town guest. We all agreed it would have been hard to beat. Fried green tomatoes with crab AND the crab bisque soup were excellent appetizers. The house steak (6 oz filet with their... More
