This place is very near my house and I was excited to read about it on tripadvisor since it sounded like a hidden gem. I never cared to go into the restaurant because it seemed like a dive, but sometimes dives have the best food so I was very eager to give it a shot. The place was as dumpy... More

but I still like it. It has character, well, as much as Rotier's anyway. It's a great neighborhood joint that's been around since the '20's. It's not gourmet burgers. It's a piece of meat on a bun with an ice cold beer (or coca-cola if you prefer) and sometimes, that's all you need for a good meal.

If friends in Nashville insist, go and be gracious. But, I'm still searching for the best burger in Nashville.

The first time I ate here was in the 1960s and, other than an enlargement, it has not changed very much. The decor is very plain, but clean. The main items are burgers, fries and chill, all of which are good. I ate here this morning with two friends, one had a grill cheese and chill and the others had cheeseburger... More

Brown's was built in what looks like an old cable car, reputedly at the end of a defunct commuter cable line. The dining room is bigger now, smoking is prohibited, and the Frito pie now has chips that are less greasy, but you cannot be a Nashville dining expert if you don't know Brown's Diner. Get the burger, and a... More

A Nashville greasy spoon tradition known for only one thing, their simple, wonderful hamburgers.

Brown's doesn't look like much on the outside (for that matter, it doesn't look all that great on the inside)...but for a cheeseburger junkie, this is a must have! Cheeseburgers and fries from Brown's should qualify as their own 'food group'. You'll miss this place if you are zooming south on 21st Ave/Hillsboro, so make a turn westward at Blair... More

I tried Brown's Diner at lunch for the first time today. Now, I know why so many people love this place! We had the fish plate and a cheeseburger & fries. The fish plate $6.99 had 5 nice size pieces of fish, 5 or 6 hushpuppies, tons of fries, good coleslaw and maybe the best tartar sauce I've ever tasted.... More

Get the French fries extra crispy! Be sure to say "cheeseburger", not "hamburger with cheese". Don't call the bartender chief, or snap your fingers at him!!
