This was the first place I was taken right after I got off the place :) and it was the best fried chicken I have tasted. Trust me when I tell you that mild is spicy (I love spicy food). The chicken piece either the breast or the leg is humongous and is served in between two piece of bread.

On Charlotte Pike (or, if you prefer, Charlotte Avenue) in downtown Nashville, beside the Legislative Plaza on the weekend of the wonderful, annual, inestimable Southern Festival of Books, I got a plate (more accurately, a foam go-box) of hot chicken. Lots of white meat on a skewer, dusted with shimmering, sunset-colored pure fire, a couple of slices of actual white... More

This chicken, fish and porkchops receive the loving treatment that only their Uncle Bolton's spice recipe can give. The traditional flavor profile, which you come to expect when you dive in, and the heat begins to build- into the tears running down your face and the tongue screaming for relief, yet you go back for just one more bite until it... My husband and I are obsessed with Pepperfire so we are on a quest to try all Nashville's hot chicken places. I had the chicken tenders mild, husband did medium. They mixed our order up (he had sides, I didn't) and my mouth was on fire! So beware. There was a huge difference between the hotness of the mild &... More

My husband and I had dinner at Bolton's based on an article we read in the Wall Street Journal, as well as other sources. I was intrigued, because articles and recipes appeared in several food magazines this summer, and I had never heard of hot fried chicken! I just had to try it, but I almost chose a spice level... Ok, do you like fried chicken with a good amount of hot pepper sprinkled on it? That's what you get when you order chicken tenders. The mild heat level is pretty hot. The medium heat level is even hotter. I can't imagine the burn in my mouth if I had chosen "hot." Now, I do like hot foods...and this is... More

It's a good little hot chicken dive in east Nashville. Still do not understand all the hype. It's good but there is a lot of good food on down the street.

We were discussing the merits of hot fried chicken in Nashville. By hot, I mean mild, medium and hot. We told our friend that Prince's was the only place we knew of that served it. He told us to forget Prince's and try Boltons. We tried the mild and it had a zing that would make Popeye's Fried Chicken throw... More

I ate here for the first time for lunch. I ordered the breast quarter sandwich. I ordered it "hot" and was questioned by the guy who took my order and ALL of the other dudes standing around. All said "Are you sure" and "You had better go with medium." I took it as a challenge. I must say that it... More

We wanted to check out Nashville's hot chicken while we were in town. Unfortunately the two places recommended to us, Prince's and Hattie B's, were closed so we found this restaurant by searching online. Bolton's has a scary looking interior and exterior but the folks taking orders and cooking food were really nice. They warned us about the spiciness of... More
