Oh, and start with their mild, unless you're sure about your spice levels. A bottle of coke won't hurt to wash it all down. I stopped here today with a few friends on a road trip, and what better way to start your trip than spicy fried fish?

First tried Bolton's Franklin Road location a few months ago, and have pretty much eaten it weekly ever since. Have driven from Murfreesboro to Nashville just to eat there several times. Place is a little bit of a dive, drink selection is inconsistent, and staff is so-so friendly, but the chicken, catfish, and sides are always great. You get some... More

I can't handle any hot foods. I usually get lemon pepper wings to avoid the hotness of mild flavoring. I tried Bolton's because, well, when in Nashville....I had the mild chicken fingers and zoo-wee-mama! They're extremely spicy but I was able to handle them. My lower lip and chin burned for about 30 minutes after I was finished eating. I... More

Best Nashville Hot Chicken I've tasted ever! The staff was friendly. My order came out in less than five minutes. The prices were reasonable. They have a variety of delicious sides that you get your money's worth for. I highly recommend this place!

Self proclaimed great chicken and fish. They have mistaken rubbing hot spices and sauces on fried chicken for flavor. I ordered a chicken sandwich. What I got was a thigh and leg (bone in) on two pieces of bread (and a bit of attitude when I challenged that interpretation). Yes the chicken was hot but totally without flavor. I have... More

This was the first place I was taken right after I got off the place :) and it was the best fried chicken I have tasted. Trust me when I tell you that mild is spicy (I love spicy food). The chicken piece either the breast or the leg is humongous and is served in between two piece of bread.

On Charlotte Pike (or, if you prefer, Charlotte Avenue) in downtown Nashville, beside the Legislative Plaza on the weekend of the wonderful, annual, inestimable Southern Festival of Books, I got a plate (more accurately, a foam go-box) of hot chicken. Lots of white meat on a skewer, dusted with shimmering, sunset-colored pure fire, a couple of slices of actual white... More

This chicken, fish and porkchops receive the loving treatment that only their Uncle Bolton's spice recipe can give. The traditional flavor profile, which you come to expect when you dive in, and the heat begins to build- into the tears running down your face and the tongue screaming for relief, yet you go back for just one more bite until it... My husband and I are obsessed with Pepperfire so we are on a quest to try all Nashville's hot chicken places. I had the chicken tenders mild, husband did medium. They mixed our order up (he had sides, I didn't) and my mouth was on fire! So beware. There was a huge difference between the hotness of the mild &... More

My husband and I had dinner at Bolton's based on an article we read in the Wall Street Journal, as well as other sources. I was intrigued, because articles and recipes appeared in several food magazines this summer, and I had never heard of hot fried chicken! I just had to try it, but I almost chose a spice level...
