My husband and I had dinner at Bolton's based on an article we read in the Wall Street Journal, as well as other sources. I was intrigued, because articles and recipes appeared in several food magazines this summer, and I had never heard of hot fried chicken! I just had to try it, but I almost chose a spice level... Ok, do you like fried chicken with a good amount of hot pepper sprinkled on it? That's what you get when you order chicken tenders. The mild heat level is pretty hot. The medium heat level is even hotter. I can't imagine the burn in my mouth if I had chosen "hot." Now, I do like hot foods...and this is... More

It's a good little hot chicken dive in east Nashville. Still do not understand all the hype. It's good but there is a lot of good food on down the street.

We were discussing the merits of hot fried chicken in Nashville. By hot, I mean mild, medium and hot. We told our friend that Prince's was the only place we knew of that served it. He told us to forget Prince's and try Boltons. We tried the mild and it had a zing that would make Popeye's Fried Chicken throw... More

I ate here for the first time for lunch. I ordered the breast quarter sandwich. I ordered it "hot" and was questioned by the guy who took my order and ALL of the other dudes standing around. All said "Are you sure" and "You had better go with medium." I took it as a challenge. I must say that it... More

We wanted to check out Nashville's hot chicken while we were in town. Unfortunately the two places recommended to us, Prince's and Hattie B's, were closed so we found this restaurant by searching online. Bolton's has a scary looking interior and exterior but the folks taking orders and cooking food were really nice. They warned us about the spiciness of... More

Ok--the name of the place includes the word SPICY. That is exactly what it is. Going in, I had the fortune of knowing Nashville is somewhat known for the "hot chicken" so I admit my first experience came with fair warning. I ordered the wing plate with the mildest temperature and boy oh boy did it have a kick. We... More

Only an [--] would call his hot sauce "mild"! I like hot sauce and spicy foods, but this was by far too spicy. I couldn't even finish more than 3 bites of the whole rack of ribs we bought. I hope Bolton's "mild" sauce catches fire and that lava burns that shack to the ground! What a rip.

I like to think I am a connoisseur of all things hot and have cried through thai hot dishes with enjoyment many times but when I asked for hot chicken and not extra hot the guy asked me twice 'you want extra hot?' and I said "No, just hot" It turned out I could barely eat one piece, which I... Nashville has many Hot Chicken places and even a festival. This summer I have been trying them all. They range from excellent to eh! So far Bolton's is my least favorite here in Nashville. Service was friendly and authentic freshly cooked experience. Big cast iron skillet in the back. Chicken was cooked well but the heat was an unpleasant hot.... More
