I've been eating at one Calypso Cafe location or another for over 20 years. I'm a Nashville local and long-time fan. The Thompson Lane location has been a go-to spot for cheap, healthy meals for the bulk of that time. Don't be mistaken, this restaurant is in a cinder block building with plastic chairs and the occasional wobbly table. It's... More

A great casual place to enjoy Jamaican cuisine. Prices are very reasonable and portions generous. I especially enjoyed the jerk chicken with sweet potato. If you are in Nashville and looking for something different check out Calypso.

The Calypso Cafe is a fabulous find! I never had Jamaican Curry before, but I can promise I will be back for more! Paired with black beans and mustard greens this is a filling, satisfying and healthy meal! Bliss!! Fast, friendly service, great food... This one is a winner!

Calypso Cafe is probably the best place in Nashville to get a great and filling lunch for a great price! Their black bean and rice salad is fantastic and they give you large serving - more than I can eat. Love their roasted chicken with sides- the mustard greens and spiced sweet potatoes - fantastic!

As always, noon is a very busy time and absolutely no place to park. Once inside, all members of the party must be there or they will not sit you - so be warned as to these issues. Now for the food - always good and tasty. This time the 1/2 chicken with two sides and more than enough and... More

Ran in between conference calls for same takeout. I asked for a recommendation and got their most popular item, the black bean salad. Much like a taco salad. Quick, delicious, fresh. Reasonable price, friendly service.

My wife and I enjoyed this restaurant after spending an afternoon in downtown Nashville. We went to the East location, so if this is in the wrong spot, I apologize. That aside, the food was great and it was nice to get away from the touristy restaurants that dominate downtown. The minimalist decor is also a nice change, but not... More

My all-time favorite, vegetarian dish at Calypso is the Black Bean Salad with rice. Their homemade BBQ sauce is fabulous. (If you are vegan, leave off the sour cream and cheese.) My husband is is lactose intolerant and orders Lucayan Chicken or Jerk Chicken. Try the Lime Coconut Bar for dessert. I take out-of-town guests here since I am from... More

Tried this cafe with a daughter and her kids. An interesting gas station conversion which is always nice to see a facility get repurposed. The food was different and all right. Had a vegetable plate and found the beans and spinach spicy and to my likening. My rice was partially cooked which wasn't too tasty or enjoyable. Their coffee and... More
