Hot Plate Time Machine

I believe a timeworn grill imparts a flavor to the food it sears, and can not be recreated with any herbs, spices, or sauces. Perhaps it's the simultaneity of hunger for both food and nostalgia that leads me to this conclusion. Whatever the reason, places like the Hermitage Café are like a back... read more

Never a bad thing to say about this place, always friendly. They have experienced some hardships recently but they will overcome these obstacles and reign supreme!

These folks are obviously living on a old reputation for what I never could figure out. Super expensive and blazzingly mediocre food. Waiter was polite - nothing great about it - real disappointed as this was supposed to be the

I moved to Nashville in 2008 and the hermitage was great! the staff was friendly and inviting. I told all my friends about it and how it was a tradition. I have brought many friends and family to the hermitage over the years. Unfortunately I will never recommend or bring anyone there again as the women that claims to run... More

Filthy place to eat or drink after going inside and viewing the dirt I knew was not for me! Do not waste your time Waffle House would be better!

This place could really use a bath but then again it wouldn't have is greasy appeal. Apparently there is a local who visits every second day and orders 21 eggs. Lots of night characters here, city workers, bar crawlers and of courses the hipsters.

Don't go there at 1:30pm like I did the first try. They were closed, and wouldn't open again until 10pm. I had heard so many good things about their food I came back at midnight. I had the biscuits and gravy, my husband had the chicken fried steak with eggs and biscuits. Was very much worth the late night trip.... More

If you adjust your expectations to a diner that looks like it's been in the same spot forever...you'll be on track to enjoying the Hermitage. The menu is posted on the wall. The staff is friendly...and obviously there's a lot of joy in this place. The diner food was ok...but the experience of the place is what sells it. Just... More

Just ran across this place looking for a breakfast restaurant when on vacation. The food was great and service. Just your classic greasy spoon dinner. I wish there were more of these still around. I had biscuits and gravy and ham egg & cheese on toast and it was great. My wife liked the waffle and home fries.

You will feel like you just found a treasure chest when you go here! I honestly can't even remember what local recommended this gem, but boy am I glad they did! The cafe is only open from the evening hours until late morning - catering to those that need to get some good eats in their stomach to soak up... More
