My husband and I returned to City House after a few years away and were reminded of how delicious the food is!! With all of the "new, cool" restaurants opening in Nashville we need to remember the ones that have stayed open because they have awesome food, atmosphere and service!

We did not have a reservation on a Friday night, but the hostess was very gracious and made us comfortable at the bar. The bartender was awesome, the menu creative and delicious, and prices reasonable. We met several locals who had nothing but praise for the restaurant, and considered it to be among their personal Nashville favorites.

Our group of 10 was excited to try this restaurant but the first bottle of red wine we ordered was vinegary and none of us liked it. After a rather showy wine tasting exercise by the manager, we were very condescendingly told that it was an excellent bottle of wine and we needed to let it air out, and perhaps... More

I am staying in downtown and saw this on the net as a place to go eat. The reviews on here, at least recently, were not stellar but I went anyway. I should mention that walking here is not bad, however, it does take you through very seedy sections of the city and I don't recommend it. I took a cab... More

This was a very disappointing experience. The seating is so uncomfortable and we were packed in on all sides which made it very difficult to carry on a conversation. It was very loud and the décor is very blah. Service was very, very slow. We had to wait to get our drinks because there were not enough clean glasses. We... More

Our waiter, Nick, started out impressive, as he knew the menu and food offerings well, but he ended up giving us the impression he thought we were just a bit beneath him. He advised us to order several appetizers and entrees and to share them family style, and after we did not take his suggestion, his attitude seemed to change.... More

We were told this was one of the "new" restaurants that's getting the buzz in Nashville so we went. I guess its the contemporary trend to be minimalist. Although the flavor of our main courses was good, there was no garnish or plating that justified the price. We ordered an appetizer, again very simple. Resembled a pancake and was made... More

Visited here with a group of nine and had high expectations. Difficult to obtain the reservation presumably due to popularity. In short, everyone in our group left hungry after paying $120-150 each. Our waitress seemed reluctant to provide insight on menu items or recommendations. It was obvious from the start that she was annoyed by taking care of a group.... More

Simply ( emphasis on simple) wonderful. Every morsel of every dish was outstanding. Knowledgeable waitstaff, relaxed vibe, and rustic, quirky dining space combined with creative and perfectly prepared food led to a fabulous adventure in dining. This meal was absolutely on a par with meals we have had at Michelin rated restaurants in Paris. It was just that good.

Definitely get reservations if you want to eat here during "prime time". We had reservations at 8:30 but came early and got a drink at the bar (SRO) and were able to be seated at 8. Bar noise was deafening. Adequate selection of wines by the glass, and plenty of mixed drink choices. This is southern food with fresh, local... More
