La Cucina is a real Italian homey kitchen offering 16 seats. The dining room is situated inside of the kitchen. We cook entirely from scratch. Always ready to experiment new recipies, but strongly influenced by the traditional cuisine of Milan and Lombardy. From our passion for the art of eating well and from our family to yours, we hope you enjoy these delicious recipies from our Italian timeless tradition.

Great food, charming people, refreshing atmosphere

Beautiful, fresh food in the middle of nowhere. Kind, competent wait staff. Happy, non-pretentious atmosphere. We drove 45 minutes because we heard the food was very good. It's true. Every course and every bite was perfect. We very much enjoyed everything about the place. When we were traveling in... read more

Short and sweet- We loved La Cucina! We loved the waitress! We could have licked our plates! This lovely little restaurant in the middle of nowhere is worth a food pilgrimage. We had read many accolades before venturing to the restaurant and we were not disappointed in the least. From the heaping plate of fresh melon and prosciutto to the... More

First visit to La Cucina, even though we have driven past many times. It is a small cozy place with great ambiance. Menu offer good variety. All food was fresh. Wait staff were very attentive. Prices were reasonable. Will definitely visit again in the near future.

I would compare this experience to the osteria style dining in a wonderful little spot in Florence! We have eaten Italian food in many cities, including Italy. I would not rate any of them better than this quaint little restaurant in Mountain City. I have been several times and always get the Melon and Proscuitto for an appetizer. I also... More

You can hardly do better even when in Tuscany! Do call ahead for reservations -- this operates on the osteria style.

My husband and I stayed in Mountain City during a weekend trip to Watauga Lake. When searching for a place to have dinner, I ran across La Cucina on TripAdvisor and was intrigued by the reviews. Our dinner there was amazing!. The food is very good, very fresh, extremely authentic and reasonably priced. Chef Mateo and his staff are so... More

After a week long family reunion at Watauga Lake Tennessee, we decided to celebrate at this awesome Italian restaurant. Mateo the chef and owner prepared a fantastic family style feast. We started with homemade bread and various dipping sauces, followed by mozzarella, tomato slices and fresh basil, then a great selection of antipasti with various meats, cheeses, and olives, followed... The food was amazing:fresh, authentic, perfectly prepared. Chef Matteo was gracious, generous, and a superb host. Dolly, our waiter was a gem and was attentive and really knew her stuff. The restaurant is clean, neat as a pin, comfortable, and conducive for long meals and good conversation. Can't believe I was in the Appalachian mountains eating food that tasted like... More

Mateo's style of cooking is so different from other Italian restaurants! He uses recipes from past generations which are fabulous. Only fresh ingredients are used in his kitchen and his deserts are a must! Great place for a two hour lunch with gorgeous mountain views!
