Long gone are the day's when Paddle Steamers from Geelong & Melbourne brought hordes of day tripper's & holiday makers to this Port town, who would head up the hill, to the Grand Hotel. Perhaps for a Sunday Roast Lunch, with a Steamed Pudding to follow. Well the Hotel still stands, with the flag fluttering from the Tower, but the... More

Never been there but wanted to give it a try. Wish we had not. Ambiance non existent, Staff unclear of anything, log fire in bistro filled room with smoke so much that staff had to open doors to let smoke out, Food below average.

Eaten there on many occasions & recommended it to all our friends. Last meal wasn't up to standard...maybe Chef was off-duty? The Lamb Shanks were tough & The John Dory tasted frozen & all lacking favour! The only compensation was a free drink! Having been hoteliers for many years in Williamstown...that is NOT acceptable! Money refunded or vouchers to try... More

Great service, great food, lovely bistro and if you are up for just a drink and a game of pool then this is the place for you, I recommend the Lamb and Steak, their Chicken Schnitzel. Just a hint, if you can try to book, if not you may get lucky to be able to walk in (like us)

Been coming to Portarlington for the last 10 years and been going to the pub regularly. Owners have changed hands many times and the restaurant has slowly deteriorated. But this is the last time we will go as the meal was such low standard. It is a pity as the "old pub" deserves much better .

Having been to the hotel in the past for meals it was long overdue for us to return. Dining in the rear lounge the atmosphere was lovely, old style not cluttered and not noisy. with different areas at different levels it did give the feel of privacy. Having to order the drinks from the bar was a bit of a... More

Messy place customer service is just a joke. Its ok if its a saturday but they don;t meant to make people wait for so long. After the wait we eventually walked out, so not much to say.

Ron & I had Sunday night dinner at Grand Hotel Portalington this week. The staff were very friendly & knowledgeable about the hotel's history. They were happy to chat about the dinning room cellar viewing, suggested photographs to look at. The meals were great tasty, hot & quick to arrive. The cheese garlic bread was wonderful tasting & presentation. The... More
