Description: We are located on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border, in an Area of Outstanding Beauty with beautiful countryside, wonderful walks and a pretty village. There are many footpaths, bridleways and mountain biking routes from the village including a route up to an ancient hillfort at Fosbury. The pub is at the heart of the Vernham Dean community, and we proved this by winning the Fullers Hampshire Village Pub of the year in 2012 - "the pub is the hub" award, combined with Vernham Dean winning best Village in Hampshire award. We often have 'event' days for occassions such as the Jubilee, Royal Wedding and bank holidays normally feature a band playing. We have an exciting beer festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend, which is always well attended by the locals and new customers alike!

Food very good, staff excellent and good atmosphere. What I do object to is the presence of dogs. Animals have no place in an establishment that prepares and serves food for human consumption. I realise that for most of your customers this is a plus point, but we are in 2014 and sooner or later you ill come a cropper... More

I am so glad you enjoyed the food, staff and atmosphere. I am sorry that you did not like the presence of dogs in the pub. Dogs are very much part of the village life and in fact one of the reasons that many people come to The George Inn as they can bring their (well-behaved) dogs as you mentioned.... More

Had a meal here a week ago, booked as we didn't know how busy it would be, good job we did as it was very very busy. The atmosphere was delightful and welcoming! Must recommend the Chilli Prawns and the warm chicken and bacon salad. They also have a number of different ales one being Crop Circle. We loved the... More

Had lunch here on Saturday. Booked via email. V. Warm welcome, lovely traditional old English pub. Great ales on offer. Food on blackboard. Very fresh local ingredients, traditional English pub grub but to exceptional quality. Home made chips superb, free range eggs with delicious ham, plaice delicious. We visited this pub as a family and not only was the food great but we were treated like we were locals and were well looked after. My wife ordered the plaice and it was the best we had been served at any restaurant. I'd highly recommend this pub for a relaxed dining experience with good quality food.

Pretty village pub with smiling, friendly, helpful service. The menu choice wasn't vast, but what they offered was done very well and everything we had - like salmon fishcakes served with proper real chips followed by warm pecan pie, was homemade and done well. But the kind service was the best thing. I felt as though I was a regular,... More

We took my mother in law out for a meal here in March for Mother's day. It was a real treat. The staff were more than kind and the food was delicious! I love how they have kept everything so traditional. I look forward to going back again real soon.

Popped in here as we had been before and fancied a bite to eat and a drink. Wasn't overly busy and got parked easily but were then met with the most incredibly dismissive rude bar staff. A young man 'served' us and treated us with disdain. He was slamming other peoples drinks down in front of us. We drank our... More

I cannot apologise enough for the treatment that you received. it is completely unacceptable, and very unusual, as our staff are normally praised for their welcome and behaviour, I would like to follow this up internally and ask that you email me with some details such as when you came, and description of the barman if possible. my email is... If you are in the vicinity of Vernham Dean you simply have to visit this pub. The landlord and all the staff are friendly and welcoming and the pub offers a good range of beer and lager as well as a delightful house red. To add to this the food is good hearty home cooked food. You get plenty on... More
