We are located on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border, in an Area of Outstanding Beauty with beautiful countryside, wonderful walks and a pretty village. There are many footpaths, bridleways and mountain biking routes from the village including a route up to an ancient hillfort at Fosbury. The pub is at the heart of the Vernham Dean community, and we proved this by winning the Fullers Hampshire Village Pub of the year in 2012 - "the pub is the hub" award, combined with Vernham Dean winning best Village in Hampshire award. We often have 'event' days for occassions such as the Jubilee, Royal Wedding and bank holidays normally feature a band playing. We have an exciting beer festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend, which is always well attended by the locals and new customers alike!

Met with an old friend for lunch and chat. We were warmly welcomed and looked after The food was excellent and portions generous. We have visited this pub for lunch before and were not disappointed.

Met up with friends for a convivial evening, and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. A table had been booked, and we were greeted warmly and speedily served with drinks. Although It was a Special 'Two meals and a bottle of wine for £30.00' night, we opted to order food and drinks separately. The ladies both had the delightful fish pie, and... More

By 7.30 on a weekday they'd run out of fish pie, fish & chips, sea bass and the lamb. Little left to choose from and we were not the only ones unhappy with the limited menu but there was no where else close by so stayed. The white wine was warm but the staff were very friendly.

I do apologise for the limited menu on Tuesday. We had had a very busy lunch and early evening and so our dishes had become limited as the evening wore on. As you pointed out it is unexpected to be quite as busy mid-week. We are normally good at having the right stock levels and being able to provide a... More

It is the picture postcard pub on the outside and on the inside. Warm welcome very helpful staff and the food was outstanding. Buddy the dog was around to help with any crumbs! Very busy with locals, which is a lovely thing to see. If I lived there I would be in most evenings too.

A really nice pub, with good food and friendly atmosphere. The village it is is set in is obviously a friendly community, with people stopping to have a chat to locals as they walked by. We sat outside the front in the glorious sunshine and had a drink and decided to stay for food when the started serving. Staff were... More

On a Sunday walk we stopped at the George Inn for quick drink thinking we were a bit late for food. The hospitality of the staff was excellent and the friendliness of the other customers unsurpassed. We stopped for a drink and ended up with a ploughman's lunch outside. They were keen to invite us in to eat; but our... More

Four of us has lunch at this pub today and we all enjoyed our meals . We all had something different ; Fish Pie, Chicken Curry , Scampi , Cod and Chips. Puds are delightful too. All too often village pubs are not as welcoming as they could be for folks who do not live locally , but the welcome... More
