I have always gone to the kookaburra and enjoyed the food they have on offer, and the renovation has made the atmosphere a lot more pleasing. Our only problem with the Kookaburra is the service. On the Kookaburras Facebook page it say "walk ins welcome", however one Saturday we walked in with a group of 7 for lunch and since... More

Only I could put a review up for the wrong hotel but that's what I did! I wrote a great review for the Halls Gap Hotel thinking I was writing it for the Kookaburra! So, here I go again. We just spent three days in halls gap and ate at this hotel every night. The food was so good and... More

The food was good, but for the price would have liked table service. Seats were too close to other diners and the service was average.

Over 30 years ago I was in Halls Gap and dined at " The Kookaburra". I moved away and have finally made it back to this fabulous little town, and I couldn't believe the Kookaburra was still there... Same owners, same lovely service and beautiful food, although numerous re-incarnations I believe. I've been talking about this place for years. Thankyou... More

Dined here with my new wife and expected more with the reviews. had to wait to get a table because of bookings but the restaurant was 1/4 full and never filled up on a wednesday night. Basically no table service had to order at bar for drinks and food. The food was good ordinary pub food, good but not great.... More

Your comments are appreciated however I would point out that we are an Hotel not a full service restaurant. The reason that you were asked to wait to be seated was because our tables are allocated on the basis of "those who book get preference of seating" and our staff need to check that the table you would have preferred... There was plenty to like on the menu but the kangaroo and duckling were the ones that tempted me most. I was not disappointed. I had the roo the first night, it was perfectly cooked with a delicious sauce. Not wanting to go home without trying the duck I returned the following night. It is a long time since I... More

The food was fairly good quality, although a little expensive. we were pleasantly surprised as we were expecting Pub quality food, and it was above expectation. the service was prompt and friendly. well worth a visit. Saturday night was very busy, even in winter so best to book ahead.

First night in Halls Gap and we decided on this little spot. With its low ceilings and a nice fire it had a lovely & cosy atmosphere. Once there we were promptly seated, out kid got a great booster seat that made him instantly comfy. We started off with the garlic bread. To our delight, it was the best one... More
