We have stayed in Halls Gap many times and would not normally eat out due to the poor standard of food generally offered there. However, with news that things had changed we dined at the Kookaburra Hotel on a Saturday night. Restaurant was full and not surprising that it was either. The food was excellent – we both had different... More

Our 3rd time at the restaurant and whilst the meals were just a tad off their excellent mark from previous times, they were still very good and good value. The new look is much better for dining too.

Lovely food, very interesting menu, good specials, good service and nice atmosphere. We ate early and it was fairly quiet although it was getting quite busy when we left.

We ate there twice whilst staying at Halls Gap. Went back the second time because we had enjoyed the meals of the vegetable stack with vegetables which were cooked to perfection and the pie with a salad which we thought was a strange combination but agreed that the salad was well constructed with a delicious dressing and after a pretty... while the food was OK to the standard of a pub meal i think the older waitress was not happy to be there. Unlike some people who seem naturally friendly i got the feeling she wasn't one of those people. The dessert was OK though and enjoyable.

Had a fantastic meal here on a cold windy night when cooking for ourselves at our Halls Gap camp site was not holding much appeal. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen knows what they're doing! Delicious food - plenty of options on the kids menu too. We started with chicken and leek soup and ciabatta (delicious!) and for mains... More

We were walk ins... This was not a problem. I can't fault anything, the service was friendly and helpful, the drinks were cold and refreshing and the meal was fabulous. What I noticed was each course in our meal was delivered promptly, not rushed and we didn't have to wait for an eternity between courses. The food was "Yummy" as... More

Our second trip to Halls Gap and we keep coming back to the Kookaburra for its quiet warm ambience, friendly helpful staff, fast service and of course, beautifully yummy comfort food. We sampled lamb in red wine, beef and Guinness pie, and spiced beef cheeks with garlic mash on this trip. We like it so much it was my choice... More

Fantastic, we arrived at 7pm and asked for a table, they were fully booked but we were offered to wait at the bar for an 8pm sitting, as we weren't in a hurry it suited us fine, the restaurant does have a booking system so if you prefer a preferred time it would pay to ring and book. The bar... More

I have recently spent a week in Halls Gap with a group of friends. We all enjoyed our meals here so much we booked again. I am pleased there are some vegetarian dishes, I loved the vegetable stack so much I ordered it both nights. The carnivores loved the duck risotto and kangaroo dish. The desserts were delicious, the creme brulee... More
