I ate here on a Saturday eve and was surprised at how busy this place got, you really do need to make a reservation but we were lucky and got a spot. Staff are very nice and the food was good albeit a little over priced for certain dishes. My partner had a steak which he really enjoyed but my... More

A sound menu with an emphasis on local produce and wines. Quality friendly service. Worth a visit but don't expect to be "blown away".

I tried the kookaburra for lunch last weekend with my partner and his mother. The waitresses were friendly and helpful and we appreciated being sat relatively close to the warm fire. The food looked appealing but I had a cold so I couldnt taste much!! Bummer! My partner and his mother really enjoyed theirs though. The interior looks recently updated... More

We came here for a late lunch and were not impressed by the attitude of the waitress who served us. The other staff were attentive but first impressions count. Food was nice.

Tonight we ate here after reading some 'good' reviews on here. On the specials board outside they has 300g porterhouse steak with chips and salad for $25 , so we both ordered this. However upon ordering the waitress advised us that there was no sauce included for this meal and if we wanted it we had to pay extra (which... More

In response to your review I make the following coments, I canot understand how your bill would show a charge of $18 for sauces as our standard charge is $3-4 and all of our ordering and invoicing is computerised. What I really do not understand is why you did not queery the bill with either myself or my partner, manager. Had... More

The food at The Kookaburra has always been fantastic and now the interior matches the standards of the food and service. On a busy Saturday night the staff coped well with a group of 15, with all meals arriving together and all of an excellent standard. The risotto, lamb special and pork dishes were particular standouts. My only disappointment was... More

The Kookaburra isn't the fanciest of restaurants but has a great welcoming and relaxed feel about it and the food was delicious! I had the lamb shoulder special and it was one of the best meals I've had! A lovely hearty, winter dish! Others at my table had 'meal envy' even though their meals were great also. We were very... Last minute decision to have dinner here. Panko Pawns and Fish and Chips. Both were delicious. Generous meal servings for a very reasonable price. Customer service could be better but I'm starting to think it's the norm in this area. Would definitely go back if I was in Halls Gap again.
