After driving 2.5hrs we were looking for a good pub meal. We stopped at the Kookaburra Hotel and after being seated were surprised by the pricey menu. $24 for chicken schnitzel we thought was a bit pricey but if it was a good one it wouldn't matter. I had an entree pasta (pork and veal ragout) for $19. The schnitzel... More

Enjoyed dinner here whilst staying in Halls Gap. Read the reviews and decided to give Kookaburra a try. I had the Kangaroo in a port and mustard sauce. It was excellent. Roast potatoes were also crispy. My husband had the special that evening which was beef cheeks cooked in red wine with star anise and cloves served with garlic mash.... More

We booked a table for Friday evening (after travel from Melbourne after work). Unfortunately we knew it would be a late arrival after heavy traffic. After phoning we were told, not a problem so booked for the Saturday. Busy and buzzing but prompt, pleasant service and excellent, tasty food. Lovely wine and beers served.

Often a busy spot but with a booking you can spend an enjoyable evening. Good food and interesting staff made this a place we will return to.

We spotted this restaurant, bar and bistro and as another reviewer has said, its appearance is deceptive. I was expecting standard Australian pub fare but the food was a cut above. We were pleased with the service. My girlfriend ordered the blackened barramundi and I ordered the special BBQ pork. My one negative comment is that maybe it is slightly... More

After being on the road just wanted good old pub bistro meal & a cold beer. From the outside this place doesn't look much , once inside it is quite upmarket and expensive. Cost us $19.00 for a beer an JD an coke. It was our only drink an left without eating. If you can afford it it probably be... More

The exterior doesn't do the interior justice. The food was excellent. The staff very attentive. Great atmosphere. What more could you ask for with great food, drinks and friends.
