Great place for meal on a cold Victorian evening

The Kookaburra has a welcoming restaurant with two wood burning fires, casual sitting areas and ample space for dinners. The menu is typical pub restaurant fare, with a good specials board. I started with the lamb shank and vegetable soup which had fantastic flavours and was really a meal in... read more

This is a great place to have diner! Very nicely decorated, helpful and kind staff and the menu.... wow, what a lot to choose from! Lots of "all time classic" dishes, but also different and exciting dishes. Great choice in wines. By far the best restaurant in Halls Gap.

After reading some reviews about not being child friendly I was nervous about taking our daughter(8) here. I shouldn't have worried! Despite the outward appearance the inside is lovely and ambient and the style (and pricing) is that of a very nice restaurant. This is not a cafe where your kids can run around or shriek - it is akin... More

We spent 2 nights in the Grampians and ate at the Kookaburra both nights. The food was the fantastic - we were not able to find such good food anywhere else on our travels in Australia. Kids were also pleased and they are not easy to please! Kangaroo fillet was superb as well as steak. Staff were pleasant and whilst... More

we came here for dinner after being out all day sightseeing and we were quite happy to find the fires well lit and a cosy atmosphere, all our meals were excellent and the staff were very attentive, I had half a roasted duck which was perfectly cooked and my friends were all impressed with theirs, its not a cheap night... We had my daughters 20th birthday dinner at the Kookaburra and it was delicious. Not one complaint. My daughters steak was cooked to perfection and my beef, mushroom & red wine pie wss superb. Highly recommend this dining experience

Came here for dinner with family, very nice and cosy with wood fire going. Don't be put off by prices of the food if your expecting pub prices as the food you get exceeds the normal standard of pub food. Ordered the beef cheeks and it just melted in your mouth and was generous portion sizes. You could see the... More

We've eaten here years ago and had great memories of the food and we weren't disappointed this time, the food was quality pub style and the open fire was a welcome addition to a freezing cold night! The only slight downside was the way one of the older staff members (maybe an owner) seemed a bit frustrated and short with... More

Very friendly staff. Had a lovely dinner with very nice wines. Sat next to the warm fire as we requested when we booked. Would recommend.

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's the best restaurant in Halls Gap. We liked it so much, we went there twice. Food and service both 5 stars!
