Lunch with a difference

The sun was shining, and we had a table with a view - we shared a seafood selection and chips, which fitted the occasion perfectly. The only downside was that the food is ordered (queueing) on the far side of the building, and the bar was by the tables, meaning you have to queue up twice, and if... read more

I had read some of the negative reviews posted recently so it was with a sense of trepidation that i stepped through the doors with 10 family members for Sunday lunch. That trepidation quickly disappeared as the staff were pleasant and courteous. Drink order was taken in a timely fashion and promptly delivered. This was followed by the food order... More

View down Sydney Harbour is wonderful. The food was excellent for some dishes and very average for others. Since prices are high this is not good enough. Waiting staff very young and slapdash. A Sydney institution but, as others have written, trading on its reputation which cannot go on indefinitely.

If you want a great view and book in advance then request a table on the beach edge. We have eaten here twice when visiting Sydney. The view is worth every penny and the ferry trip from Sydney is a must do. The meals are good but doesn't quite match the price tag. A bit of a tourist trap but... More

The fish was amazing, we ordered tuna and we were impressed, but the cuisine. Unfortunately the staff is too young, unable to explain wine and to give suggestions, for the high level of food in Doyles skilled staff would be really important. Other suggestion if you planning to go there it would be good to take a table upstairs has... More

The view from here is great especially if, like us, you are there at sunset. However, the food is only average. It's a bit of an institution but does seem to be surviving on past reputation. You might be better off getting the takeaway and eating it on the pier.

Expected far too much Expensive and overpriced and not really that good either. Not enough fish and too much batter. Probably better to just buy them from the fish and chip shop as you get off the boat. The positive is the view in the sun if you sit outside. Very nice!

We visited Doyles for supper one evening whilst on vacation, having heard a great deal of good about the place, such as 'it's the only place to go for fish and chips' our expectations were high. Whilst the batter on the fish was nice and crispy and not thick, the portion size was an utter disgrace. However, the chips have... More

My father chose Doyles to mark the occasion of his 80th birthday last week. We had a leisurely lunch with beautiful food, stunning views and excellent service. It was a very memorable day and we look forward to returning. The only downside of the afternoon was trying to get cabs for our group to get back to the hotel (not... More
