Best roast duck and Vienna schnitzels in Sydney. Generous portions. Great flavour. You will keep going back.

For my recent birthday, we decided to go to Cafe Gundel in Rose Bay. Our family has been there a number of times and each time have had top service, together with beautifully prepared and tasty food. For seven hearty mouths to feed with entrees, main meals deserts and drinks, we were there from early evening to closing time. My... More

Typical middle European hearty fare, not over the top expensive and good for families. Perhaps a little lacking in atmosphere (i.e. not as cosy as 21) and service can be a little slow when busy. Good portions and thankfully they have langosh here - YUM!!!!

Used to be a great restaurant. Went in there this evening explaining, as we walked in, that me and a friend were just there for a quick coffee. Waitress was very polite, understood and took out a new table for us. However 5-10 mins later the lady in charge specifically walked over to our table and complained to us (in... More

This noisy little restaurant serves up wonderful Hungarian food. Kathy the owner and her girls make sure that everyone gets served in a timely manner even on a very busy night. The food is always good Hungarian comfort food and anyone looking for just that should make a beeline to this restaurant. You can usually get a table, but it... More

My family and I have been dining at Cafe Gundel for a number of years. We're always welcomed warmly and what we like about the restaurant is its consistent menu. We always know what we're going to order before we walk in the door. We alternate between the Lemon Sole and Veal Knuckle mains and generally order soup starters. My... More

What a surprise and who would have known this was so good and on our doorstep. Last night we dined at Cafe Gundel. The Algerian hostess assisted us with our order of Lagosh (deep fried bread) served with Sour cream, an amazing bean soup...we decided to try more and more on the menu so asked for small portions so this... Cafe Gundel is like the family dining room you have when you're not at home - or at least it should be. It's not a fine dining restaurant - but European comfort food served with indifferent attitude. The food was just OK. Chicken Paprika has been better. The sauce was watery and lacking in flavour. The nocedli were somewhat overcooked... More

Possibily if you are not from Hungary of Eastern Europe, you don't quite know what Hungarian cuisine is - don't let this put you off, there is enough regular fare at Gundel for everyone, but the veals, the snitzels and the goulashes, etc add to the menu and enable you to find something a little different to try, particularly if... Four of us ate there on Tuesday 18 February. We can recommend as a starter the langos, a Hungarian fried bread. There are a wide range of entrees...our choice was the cherry soup and the home made pasta with cottage cheese, bacon and sour cream. For the main course the dcuk is outstanding and the stuffed cabbage is also excellent.... More
