Description: The Blue Anchor Inn was one of the first pubs in South Wales to produce...
The Blue Anchor Inn was one of the first pubs in South Wales to produce quality bar meals back in the 1980's. Since then we have gone from strength to strength, winning awards including the South Wales Food Pub of the year for four years,2013, 2011, 2008 and 2006. We are Egon Ronay recommended and are included in the Michelin Eating out in Pubs guide since 2007(the only South Wales entry in the guide), as well as the AA Pub Guide 2013, where we appear as Pick of the Pubs for the Vale of Glamorgan. As well as food who could forget real ales! we have always been a forerunner in the promotion of real ale in South Wales. We were the first winner of the CAMRA pub of the year award back in 1983 and we have maintained our position to the present day by being included in the current 2013 CAMRA Guide.

Had dinner at the Blue Anchor on Saturday night and couldn't fault it. The venue itself is full of character and really fascinating. The food was excellent, all served piping hot, and the service was great. I started with the haddock fishcakes with creamed leeks, followed by porcini and garlic ravioli then brownie. Wish I'd chosen the honeycomb cheesecake though... More

First visit to Blue Anchor for lunch. We all 4 really liked this place - very authentic and tables in every nook and cranny. Baguettes were excellent and service friendly and efficient. We went upstairs to look at restaurant and were impressed. A gem !

My wife and I stopped here in our motorhome and enjoyed a truly magnificent meal. Excellent ribeye steak, lovely fresh vegetables and a great wine selection. This very old thatch roofed inn is a true delight. Very helpful and friendly staff. Great value for money. We are sure to return.

Had a lovely meal on May Day Bank holiday. Very well cooked, tasty and good portion sizes and value. Initially when the pub was quiet we had excellent service, but as it filled up, just after our main courses, the service got slower and slower ending up with us having to go to the bar to order puddings. Even then... More

Once again the Blue Anchor doesn't disappoint. Excellent beer, fast service, good pub food. Kids meal good, the thai curry is always a favourite within the party and for once I chose the fish n chips which was excellent and fresh.

Has both old style bar area and sympathetically designed newer restaurant area. We had a great 3 course meal with nicely presented food, all delicious. Two of us ate for £48 with drinks served by delightful staff. Can be very busy at week ends but ideal mid-week.

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch here recently. The food is excellent with fresh vegetables. It is cooked to perfection and just the right size. The service is very good , well timed between courses. Would highly recommend it. The environment is fantastic in an old thatched pub. I believe it's one of the oldest pubs in Wales.

This restaurant is in a lovely old stone building, which is a bit like a maze inside. We originally booked a table in the restaurant upstairs but changed the booking to downstairs as one of our party might have had trouble with the stairs. They were very accommodating about this. The menu is quite varied, with something for everyone. I... More
