Certificate of Excellence 2014
Dining options: Reservations, Late Night
Description: The Blue Anchor Inn was one of the first pubs in South Wales to produce quality bar meals back in the 1980's. Since then we have gone from strength to strength, winning awards including the South Wales Food Pub of the year for four years,2013, 2011, 2008 and 2006. We are Egon Ronay recommended and are included in the Michelin Eating out in Pubs guide since 2007(the only South Wales entry in the guide), as well as the AA Pub Guide 2013, where we appear as Pick of the Pubs for the Vale of Glamorgan. As well as food who could forget real ales! we have always been a forerunner in the promotion of real ale in South Wales. We were the first winner of the CAMRA pub of the year award back in 1983 and we have maintained our position to the present day by being included in the current 2013 CAMRA Guide.

Staying overnight close to the airport for an early morning flight my husband asked me to look for somewhere close by to have an evening meal. When we were living in Cardiff I had once before mentioned I would like to try the Blue Anchor, unfortunately a few weeks later it burnt down (not my fault honest). So at last... More

We decided to go here for our anniversary recently for a change. We booked the restaurant and were told there would be coach parties in so we may prefer to eat in the bar. We decided to have the one table available in the restaurant. There were 2 coach parties in so was a little noisey and there was a... More

We live about ten miles away from the pub but are regular visitors. That's because of the superb food, bar meals usually, and the well kept ales. The Old Peculiar in particular is worth the journey. Its £4 a pint but worth it. The place is always clean and the history makes it an interesting pub to visit. We have... More

We had been recommended the Blue Anchor and on a spur of the moment decided to stop here for a quick sandwich but ended up staying a lot longer! Once reading the menu we decided to try the steak and the line caught haddock and it was a great decision as the food was lovely. (Added delight no cooking dinner... More

We visited Blue Anchor prior to going to Heineken Cup rugby final in Cardiff. Good quality food embracing both meat and fish together with very good value wine and an excellent range of real ales all made for a memorable lunch. We hope to come back!

Three generations family lunch. Good quality family friendly afternoon gastro pub. All of us loved it. Low beams and horse brasses. Speciality ales on tap. Food - really good. Not sure hoe you'd be passing but if you are, pop in. Sword Fish - perfectly cooked. Fish and Chips - very well received by Grandma and Grand Daughter. If you'll... More

Despite only living a few miles from the Blue Anchor this was our first visit and we'll be returning many many times. There was a fine array of real ale on offer, including the best pint of HPA I've ever tasted and we sat and chatted in the most relaxed and laid-back atmosphere on a sunny Bank Holiday monday. We... This was my second trip in a month (didn't have time to review the first!). Initial meal was just my husband and I - quiet romantic meal for two, the second and most recent with our children. We've been coming to the Blue Anchor off and on for years, and the one thing I can say is that the food... More

Excellent food and reasonable value in very quaint surroundings. Only observation is they seemed a bit understaffed although I overheard the staff say they were quiet. I would go again.
