Certificate of Excellence 2014
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch, Reservations, Late Night
Description: The Blue Anchor Inn was one of the first pubs in South Wales to produce quality bar meals back in the 1980's. Since then we have gone from strength to strength, winning awards including the South Wales Food Pub of the year for four years,2013, 2011, 2008 and 2006. We are Egon Ronay recommended and are included in the Michelin Eating out in Pubs guide since 2007(the only South Wales entry in the guide), as well as the AA Pub Guide 2013, where we appear as Pick of the Pubs for the Vale of Glamorgan. As well as food who could forget real ales! we have always been a forerunner in the promotion of real ale in South Wales. We were the first winner of the CAMRA pub of the year award back in 1983 and we have maintained our position to the present day by being included in the current 2013 CAMRA Guide.

We visited the Blue Anchor with family and friends including two vegetarians. When we checked the menu prior to booking it was refreshing to see that they had a variety of options and not just the often traditional nut or cheese based choices. This standard was also replicated in the menu as a whole and the standard of all (6)... More

Food served in the bar is the same high quality served in the restaurant. They have a lunch time special menu. It can get busy towards the weekend but they will reserve a table for you.

After living in the local area and driving past this quaint pub frequently, a group of friends and I decided to try it out one evening and how we regret that decision greatly. There's no questioning this place looks appealing and we had no complaints about the food what so ever, in fact the food was very good. The problem... More

After a terrible experience at the Blacksmith arms we arrived at the Blue Anchor starving and only 5mins before they stopped serving. Our orders were taken straight away and our food was on the table in 20 mins. Barmaid Jude was as chatty and smiley as ever and we all had a brilliant time including our dogs. Lovely food, great... No doubt that the food and ales here are excellent and it has been my local for as long as i can remember. But twice in the last 2 weeks ive been unable to have the beer i asked for as the barrell has gone and the staff have been unable to change it (different staff each time). If this... More

I am sorry to hear about your disappointment with our service recently but appreciate your comment about the quality of the food and real ales we serve here at the blue anchor. On the night in question the barmaid apologised and informed you that the guest beer had run out, the barmaid working that night has worked at the blue... More

The Blue Anchor is a lovely place to eat and relax. The food was excellent and bursting with taste at every bite. We sat outside and lovely weather made it a perfect evening. Staff attentive and good service. Will go back again and again.

What a lovely place to visit! Real old world charm with wonky stone walls and floors and tons of character. The menu on offer is varied and the quality of the food was excellent. We were a party of 11 and sampled steak, fish & chips, gammon, mussels and aubergine bake. Everyone was very happy with their meal and the... More
