Description: The Blue Anchor Inn was one of the first pubs in South Wales to produce...
The Blue Anchor Inn was one of the first pubs in South Wales to produce quality bar meals back in the 1980's. Since then we have gone from strength to strength, winning awards including the South Wales Food Pub of the year for four years,2013, 2011, 2008 and 2006. We are Egon Ronay recommended and are included in the Michelin Eating out in Pubs guide since 2007(the only South Wales entry in the guide), as well as the AA Pub Guide 2013, where we appear as Pick of the Pubs for the Vale of Glamorgan. As well as food who could forget real ales! we have always been a forerunner in the promotion of real ale in South Wales. We were the first winner of the CAMRA pub of the year award back in 1983 and we have maintained our position to the present day by being included in the current 2013 CAMRA Guide.

Top Quality Food

First time eating at The Blue Anchor, East Aberthaw. Not disappointed, as the food was top quality, and price was reasonable for what we had. We arrived early on Friday evening before they started cooking (6pm), so pre-ordered our food (which was helpful because the place soon filled up). Best to... read more

The Inn is a delight we lots of nooks and crannies would around the main bar. A superb Sunday lunch was had with wonderful vegetables followed by a delightful desert. We had two Lambs, one Chicken and one Beef and every plate was spot on. The veg was superbly cooked. For desert I had a Lemon Posset which was divine... More

Lovely meal here, very friendly staff. Small car park at front but opposite is a larger one. The thatched roof was being done when we were there, very interesting as they had come from England to replace it. The inside is deceptively spacious as it seems to go around in a circle, with lots of nooks and crannies. Really nice.... More

What a charming little jewel this is, a beautiful thatched inn just oozing charm. With several real ales to choose from you are spoilt for choice. We had a meal in the upstairs restaurant and were not disappointed. I had deep fried sardines, which were delicious, followed by lamb with sweet potato mash and purple sprouting broccoli all cooked to... More

This restaurant was lovely and quaint. We were there with a tour group and the service was wonderful. We had a lovely Welsh evening with a harpist playing beautiful music. The food was excellent.

We always head here for a meal, as the atmosphere is ideal, it's unpretentious, good homely food meals are of a consistently high standard. Good value. Children's menus too.

What do you do when the Red Arrows display at Barry has been cancelled because of the wonderful British summer. How do you cope with the disappointment. Well we tried to find a pub that would let our dog in as a starter and the Blue Anchor fitted the bill. Too early for a hot meal we decided to have... More

The Blue Anchor has always been a safe bet for a nice Sunday lunch, but it was a major disappointment last Sunday. There were only two other tables occupied when we arrived - unusual for this restaurant. Expecting the service to be swift, it was slightly irritating to have to wait over half an hour for our main course (none... More
