Description: The Blue Anchor Inn was one of the first pubs in South Wales to produce...
The Blue Anchor Inn was one of the first pubs in South Wales to produce quality bar meals back in the 1980's. Since then we have gone from strength to strength, winning awards including the South Wales Food Pub of the year for four years,2013, 2011, 2008 and 2006. We are Egon Ronay recommended and are included in the Michelin Eating out in Pubs guide since 2007(the only South Wales entry in the guide), as well as the AA Pub Guide 2013, where we appear as Pick of the Pubs for the Vale of Glamorgan. As well as food who could forget real ales! we have always been a forerunner in the promotion of real ale in South Wales. We were the first winner of the CAMRA pub of the year award back in 1983 and we have maintained our position to the present day by being included in the current 2013 CAMRA Guide.

Monday evening visit

Restaurant not open on a Monday evening but no worries, the same food is served as a bar meal. Very good food in quaint and historic surroundings. We were certainly impressed enough to make another visit to try out the restaurant. Recommended, welcoming and well worth a visit.

I have a list, I'm sure we all have one, of my favourite places I have ever eaten. I would be happy to tell you them all but this list includes places across the land and not necessarily in the big cities. This restaurant is now on the list let me break it down into sections as to why. Firstly... More

I have visited this restaurant many times over very many years, for private dinners, business dinners and party size dinners. I have always enjoyed the food and the bar/restaurant. I moved away about 3 years ago and returned recently and naturally chose to go to dinner there with friends. We arrived early evening (did not reserve a table) to eat... More

I can't remember the last time I have given 5 stars and I trip advise quite a lot! Lovely pub so old and full of character. Comfortable, clean, pleasant friendly service. Waited just the right amount of time from ordering food and between courses. But it was the food that stood out here. Gorgeous! All 6 of us throughly enjoyed... More

Visited back in March so I am a little late with my review. Pub is lovely and warm we were seated upstairs by an open fire and served straight away. I ordered a rib eye steak and chips with trimmings and it was so big it was spilling off the plate =) it was absolutely lovely food. Its a little... More

Had dinner at the Blue Anchor on Saturday night and couldn't fault it. The venue itself is full of character and really fascinating. The food was excellent, all served piping hot, and the service was great. I started with the haddock fishcakes with creamed leeks, followed by porcini and garlic ravioli then brownie. Wish I'd chosen the honeycomb cheesecake though... More

First visit to Blue Anchor for lunch. We all 4 really liked this place - very authentic and tables in every nook and cranny. Baguettes were excellent and service friendly and efficient. We went upstairs to look at restaurant and were impressed. A gem !

My wife and I stopped here in our motorhome and enjoyed a truly magnificent meal. Excellent ribeye steak, lovely fresh vegetables and a great wine selection. This very old thatch roofed inn is a true delight. Very helpful and friendly staff. Great value for money. We are sure to return.

Had a lovely meal on May Day Bank holiday. Very well cooked, tasty and good portion sizes and value. Initially when the pub was quiet we had excellent service, but as it filled up, just after our main courses, the service got slower and slower ending up with us having to go to the bar to order puddings. Even then... More
