The starters were excellent but badly let down by the main courses. Burger sliders were in fact three small burgers on buns. Although a watercress salad was promised on the menu none was forthcoming and it was only after arguing with the waitress that a rocket salad was produced. The "Thai" chicken was a shrivelled piece of dry unflavoured chicken.... More

Let me start saying that we have just been told the Royal Oak Hotel and restaurant is on sale, so it could be my experience reflects this transitional phase. We booked one night at the hotel and we decided to eat there. 7.15pm we were told the kitchen was busy and there were no seats, so we were invited to... More

We were a bit excited to stop here on our way to Cardiff as the description described the restaurant as a gastro pub. (It was a second choices as the Old Station was shut) Well, maybe could be described that way ten years ago but not today. Ordered the brie starter, it was embarrassingly small. I thought the pot of... More

I have eaten here on about 20 occasions, unfortunately the prices have gone up and quality down. The service is good but food was really really poor. We paid around £17 per main meal and were incredibly disappointed -the steak was fatty, game was overcooked and the ox cheek was the worst ever tasted.

Food and drink is very expensive here, we always miss this pub off the pub crawl. But a VERY nice place to have a wedding. My sister had her reception here and the food and service was just perfect

Delicious meal from start to finish. Very friendly welcome and service. Generous portions. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent.

Nice surroundings and good service. Ate calves liver main - nice mash and veg but liver was way overcooked. Kids burger slider mains were very good. All in all, fine.

A pleasant hotel and restaurant belonging to the Best Western chain and probably the closest Welshpool comes to being posh. BUT NOT REALLY. The food is uninspiring and very expensive. The bar area is great with leather couches to lounge in. But beer prices are approaching £4 a pint or even more, while the bar staff are very young and... More
