Description: The SugarPlum Tearoom (part of Homewood Bound Collections) is situated in the picturesque village of Rhewl just five minutes from the thriving market town of Ruthin boasting a magnificent view of the Clwydian range of mountains. Since opening in May 2012 the Sugarplum tearoom has already become a firm favourite with locals and regular customers. It is a magnet for morning coffee, ladies that lunch, friends, family, business lunches, walkers and passers-by. We have a great range of homemade cakes (including gluten free) and our scones are made fresh every morning. We serve breakfasts, light lunches, salads and afternoon teas. Our irresistible milkshakes (served in vintage milk bottles) have caused quite a stir; cookies and cream, peanut butter and nutella to mention but a few. Our platters served with homemade rustic bread, local cheeses and pate are extremely popular and of course our Sugar Plum afternoon tea is the perfect indulgence. For those who want good service and who enjoy tasty homemade food in a family friendly, buzzing yet relaxed atmosphere then Sugar Plum is your place.

This is a little gem in the middle of the Clwydian Range. Very 'retro' style with a lot of lovely decoration harking back to the 40's and 50's. Food is excellent and plentiful. Views out back are superb. Extra bonus is a lovely antique style shop with loads of Cath Kidson goods too. Only one BIG FLAW with the café... More

I took a friend to the Sugar Plum for a birthday coffee/tea and naughty cake. The standard is still the same - high! Friendly waitress service still prevails and lovely to drink from a china cup - one of my things!!!! I have been for lunch also in the past and can truly recommend all that is on the menu.... More

I’m a vintage loving gal but I’ve never been wild about slavish recreations of dark and gloomy period rooms preferring a fusion of the best of the past and new. The Sugar Plum tearooms is quite possibly my favourite ever tearoom it has all the elements you would want in a place calling itself a tearoom rather than a cafe.... More

A family visit based on the recommendation of two friends. And what a find! I couldn't fault the service; friendly, knowledgable and calm. Food: soup, sandwiches, various things on toast, a glorious afternoon tea and wonderful cakes. We live about an hour away but would happily travel back especially for tea and prosecco. Well done all.

It's all a bit twee as you might guess from the name and from your entry via a room full of Kath Kidston and Emma Bridgewater gifts. It is perhaps more suited to the ladies and not, as our waitress pointed out, a place to take your teenage son. You are served on china cups and plates (tea really does... More

I took an old friend who was visiting from America. We had lunch in the cafe-welsh rarebit and tomato soup, both homemade and very tasty. Next time I will leave room for the lovely cakes! We liked the simple vintage style decorations and tearoom feel-perfect for taking your mum, daughter etc and ideal for ladies who lunch! There is also... More

We heard of the tearoom through a relative. She knew we enjoyed a vintage afternoon tea. How right she was. The café is pretty, bright and cheerful with lots of lovely vintage/retro touches. Everywhere you look you will see something that will trigger nostalgia. It's important to book as it is very busy....always a good sign! The staff were helpful,... More

I heard of this cafe recently and as my mother was visiting we thought we would give it a try. What a treat! We had scones that were delicious with gorgeous buttery mini shortbread biscuits on the side of our coffee cup. There were also proper afternoon teas which looked amazing- must come back to try that! In summary, friendly... More

What a find! Sugar Plum is a cracking tearoom which serves fantastic cakes and a menu of light bites and specials. The theme of the décor with all its bits and bobs from times past evokes memories and brings a sense of feel good to go with the excellent food and friendly attentive service. This is a small owner run... More
