Dog Friendly

Always good to find a pub that does good food that genuinely welcomes dogs. The waitress brought a bowl of water without asking which is always a good move with dog owners. The fact the food was good, service excellent, fine beers and reasonable cost just made it all so much better!! Wish we lived... read more

We were on a spontaneous road trip around the Brecon Beacons and found ourselves in Llandovery at lunchtime so this was an entirely unplanned visit and we had no expectations of what we would find. We were delighted - the staff were lovely, really friendly, warm and helpful, and the food was excellent. I had Welsh Rarebit which was a... More

We ate here one night as we were curious about the Josper grill. The food was OK but not exciting, and the waitress seemed a little scatty and confused even though the place was almost empty.

As an avid & excitable foody I find that I have to constantly reign myself in and remember where we are. Unfortunately there is little market for "very exciting" food in Llandovery but our offering is generally regarded as being well cooked & of high quality. Regarding the waitress, I suspect this (unfortunately) was one of our less experienced girls... More

Sometimes we have to be careful not to appear unwelcoming to people who audaciously arrive without a pooch !!! It is fair to say that WE LOVE THE DOGGIES !!! More

Whilst on a journey for a weekend away. Stopped here and had a very full filled ham sandwich. Asked for skimmed milk and the bar tender disappeared for a short while, whilst he went to the local shop and got some. That's service for you.

We went for Sunday lunch which was fantastic. Great food and really good value for money. The beef was cooked perfectly and the roast potatoes were some of the best I have ever tasted. We also had plenty of tasty veg and loads of gravy. The puddings were sublime! We will definitely be back!

This was our first visit to the Castle which had been recommended to us. We booked a table for lunch and were told that they had a private group booking but could accommodate us at 1.30pm. We arrived a little early but were content to wait in the lunge and have a drink. Our order was taken at 1.20 and... More

There is no excuse for this, this booking was mishandled from the start. The timing could not have been worse with a group of 64 being served at the same time. The chefs could not begin to prepare the order until the main courses for the function had been sent. Entirely our fault and a situation that will not be... More

We had read about this lovely place via trip adviser. So we decided to give it a go! We opted for the sirloin steaks which were £35 with all the trimmings and a bottle of wine! It so didn't disappoint! The service was friendly 10/10 to all the girls that were working the front of house on Wednesday 18th. You... More

We ate here on the way to the coast and the place was very quiet.Could probably do with a little low quay music in the background. There was a good choice on the menu and the chips were specially cooked in beef fat. This did not do my digestion any good at all! We all found the meals very greasy... More

It can be quiet at this time of year and we take on board your comments regarding background music. Regarding the chips however, the positive feedback far outways the negative and the beef dripping will remain (we do offer fries cooked in vegetable oil as an alternative). You don't explain your low rating of the service or value for money,... More

Called in on the off chance on sunday afternoon - ordered drinks then waited about an hour before anyone came over to take our order. The waiter seemed a bit rushed and confused, couldnt see any other staff. Having seen one group already complain after their order was cocked up - cold food, then wrong food , we quickly realised... This review has been reported as inappropriate, seems unfair to rate the food when you didn't eat. We did have some problems that day & I am happy to say that they have been resolved. The table who complained, incidentally, sent back lamb saying that it was beef. It was lamb, very local lamby lamb. Read into that what you... More
