Victoria (my partner and wife) absolutely loves Ethiopian food and so, as we travel around the states doing Art Shows, we have an opportunity to sample the efforts of restaurants from coast to coast. I never suspected that we'd stumble on one of our favorites here in a town known for barbecue and honky tonks! Family owned, staffed and run,... More

I ate here on a recent business trip. Although most of the menu lists meat dishes, the Yetsome Beyaynetu is a traditional vegetarian spread on injera bread. I've had this at several Ethiopian restaurants across the country (I usually try to eat vegan) and this was the best I've ever had. The food was fresh, tasty, and filling. If I... More

The best Ethiopian food I've had outside of manhattan. Terrific Vegetarian food too. Superb use of spices.

I've spent a lot of time in Ethiopia, and believe me, the food here is not "sort of like I used to get", nor "similar to what I remember", nor even "not bad, considering we're in America" -- no. The food here is JUST EXACTLY LIKE what I used to get in Addis Ababa! It's in an unassuming location, nothing... More

The restaurant is small, but they are very nice and helpful! I usually don't know what to order so I ask them to give me a sampler if there is no open food bar. You get an experience to eat with your hands by using the bread, which is great! The prices are just right and they have food for... More

Abyssinia is one of my favorite restaurants in Memphis and I've eaten here many times since I moved to the area. The food is outstanding--excellent Ethiopian fare--and even better than some of the Ethiopian I have had in other, larger cities. The lunch buffet is dangerously fine, the prices are good (especially the lunch buffet), and the staff is kind.... More

First time eating Ethiopian food & my experience could not have been better!!! I am a vegan & could not have been happier with the selection & my full belly after leaving this place. The food was SO good & I found out about it on the Vegan Crunk blog (ck it out!!!) that lists all the vegan friendly Memphis... More

we're always looking for something out of the ordinary, and we found it here. we chose the daily buffet, since it contained nearly all the vegetables available for the menu meals and also contained a chicken dish. many of the items are spicy, which in my opinion is a good thing, although my wife likes less "hot" dishes. the wait... The decor has improved some and the food is still great. So glad to see this place still exists. Wide range of selections and the waitstaff will explain it all. They still have the buffet but my favorite is still the vegetarian platter. Call to check hours as some sites say they are closed on Sunday, I ate there on... More

I may just not like Ethiopian food because others in the group enjoyed their food. Do plan to leave smelling like the resturant.
