Gus's is the gold standard for fried chicken. The batter has a subtle spice to it and it isn't too greasy. The meat is very juicy and tender. I typically am not a huge fan of chains, but this place does a great job.

Loved the fried pickles ad the chicken. The staff was very helpful-they answered all sorts of tourist questions.

The fried chicken was, indeed, quite good -- I enjoyed the subtle heat, the crisp skin, and the fact that it wasn't greasy at all. However, the white meat pieces were somewhat dry, and it wasn't particularly flavorful aside from being slightly spicy. I will say that the service was great and the waiter was super friendly. But overall, I... More

Yes, this is a hole in the wall. Yes, they have homemade fried chicken. I don't think this restaurant is anything special. Many restaurants in the south have great fried chicken. The sides are normal beans, slaw, potato, and such. There was nothing bad about this restaurant, I just think there are far better options in Memphis.

The hole in the wall joint means nothing. The chicken I had here was the best I've ever had. Now, thankfully they've opened one closer to where I live!!!

We spent the night in Memphis and ate at Gus's. I felt like the chicken was not seasoned properly. We had a side order of fried green tomatoes and they were very good. Service was just so - so. For all the reviews we were really dissapointed. You should try Chicken Annies in Pittsburg Kansas. They know how to fry... More

Okay, been to Gus's before - at 3 Memphis locations.. this time for lunch earlier in this week. Had the 2 piece white meat, beans, slaw lunch meal. Wife had similar but no chicken - new diet. About two hours later, I became ill -- remained ill the rest of the day -- multiple trips to the 'john'. Wasn't fun.... More

Okay I know it's fried chicken and supposed to be greasy it was served in a bag and it just was sopping with oil. I'm not opposed to a little bit but that was overkill. I looked at the reviews online and they seem to have the most and pretty good ones. My parents picked up the regular chicken and... More

Hands down the best fried chicken I've ever ate. The place didn't look like much when we were walking in. The service was great but the chicken make this place what it is. The sides are also full of flavor. Enjoy!

Go mid afternoon, order the whole menu, and enjoy with your choice of 40s. This is the absolute greatest fried chicken I have ever had. Seasoned and fried to perfection. If I lived nearby, I'd be 400+ lbs. This restaurant and night life on Beale St. are the two reasons we will be returning for a killer weekend. Don't miss... More
