went to get a fish supper and there was a small sign on door which said sorry no fish till friday wot a joke for a seaside chip shop whether its december or no
I have a home on the island and we struggled to find a really good Fish & Chip shop until we found the Squat Lobster. Very firendly and everything cooked fresh and most produce sourced locally. Added to good quality food, it was very reasonably priced and also the building itself has some interesting history. A must for a trip... More
This has got to be the best place for Fish and Chips I've ever experienced in the UK. The Haddock fish meal has thin, crispy batter, no bones at all, and the fish is really moist. All meals are cooked to order (a bit like in New Zealand - another place for outstanding takeaway food). The chips are the same.... More
Right on the front by the Ferry Terminal you cant miss it. We had a restaraunt booked originally but the weather was so nice we decided to have something to eat here and sit on the front. So glad we did... The banter and friendly conversation from the owner and son while we waited was excellent, especially as they were... More
Quirky little place (and it is very little!) overlooking the sea in Rothesay, staff were very nice and friendly. Had the fish and chips which was made to order in front of me, took no time at all. Fish was tasty and the batter lovely and crisp, chips quite nice. A great wee place to visit if your coming to... More

P.S. the cost of Fish & Chips is actually £6.25 (not £6.95); I realise that the pricing on the blackboard is a little mis-leading but you were only charged £6.25 ...it is... More

we ate here on 3 occasions over the weekend. Whilst small the staff offer a wonderful food, freshly made to order. Well worth the wait.
We were very disappointed with our meal, as we were expecting great things. The chips were overcooked and tasteless, but the fish was worse as it seemed very oily. We only ate about half before giving up and throwing the rest in the bin.
I've been looking for good fish and chips on Bute for a while, and Tripadvisor reviews tempted me to try the Squat Lobster. On the up side, the staff were friendly and welcoming, everything was cooked to order and the chips were superb. On the down side, the fish. We had three pieces, of which two were quite nice and... Visited Bute yesterday. After searching for place to eat. We decided on The squat lobster. Due to the menu. I ordered two Fish suppers. Helpful young chap serving. Informed me it would all be cooked fresh was this okay. It was a pleasure to chat to him whilst he was cooking. I also ordered a portion of Fresh prawns. Again... More
