Great salads and tasty soup

Very busy small bistro, due to the popular meals. We had a wonderful salad served with fresh brown bread and an extremely tasty seafood chowder, again served with brown bread. The coffee was as good as any coffee chain, but cheaper. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this bistro... read more

We have know the Bistro for a long time, and like others we remember the excellent salads and the wonderful mixture of ingredients. In fact there was hardly a thing wrong with the place, other than it was crowded with people because it was so popular. But, oh dear, since the change of ownership it has been heading downwards. Gone... More

The menu is varied and always excellent. It is a small, stone-built room with lots of atmosphere and usually full at lunch-time so get there early.

Fab little place hidden down a back lane...a little gem....best fish chowder ever, followed by coffee and heavenly lemon drizzle cake. No complaints whatsoever!

Food was lovely as always good service. You pay more than you would in an everyday cafe as the extra touches here add to your visit.

On a recent visit to Scotland I was taken here by a friend who lives locally. It's hidden away so I doubt I would have noticed it. It's a small cosy place with lovely stained glass windows. The staff were helpful and friendly and the free wi-fi was definitely an advantage. We all enjoyed our food very much (including my... More

Arrived before midday to secure a table for business/pleasure lunch. Very soon this delightful hidden spot was full to bursting - obviously many have found it! Ordered Cullen Skink, a traditional smoked haddock soup which was freshly made, served with thick slices of brown bread and butter and heavenly. The Smiddy Bistro is a 'must find' amidst interesting and unusual... More

For many years the 'Smiddy Salad' was the hilight of our holiday eating experiences. We would think about it salivating and imagining the wonderful array of components. It was prepared with care. HOWEVER under the new management it is no more and as a result is a less attractive eating venue. I am sure we are not alone in missing... More

Dear customer. We're sorry to hear that you were disappointed on your last visit to The Smiddy. Like any other establishment we do change or remove items on the menu from time to time. It's unfortunate that the removal of the salads in question has upset you. The next time you're in please just ask if there's anything u can't... More
