Small but Scrumptious!

This is a tiny bistro down a side street in Lochgilphead. It is cosy, you are made to feel welcome as soon as you go through the door and the food is delicious, home-made and varied. A little expensive perhaps but fairly typical of the area but well worth it. Never had anything I didn't like and... read more

Friendly staff, fresh food (especially enjoyed the veggie chilli), ambient surroundings, free parking close by - an ideal spot to have lunch or a snack in Lochgilphead.

We had The Smiddy recommended to us by family who live in the area . Its kind of tucked away so you probably wouldn't happen upon it as easily if you were a visitor just passing through. Worth looking for though! Get in early would be my advice because its quite small and busy. Lovely range of specials as well... More

Here's one for you not to miss when in Lochgilphead, The Smiddy Bistro, run by the lovely Bruce Johnston. You will not be disappointed, the food is freshly prepared and delicious. The staff can't do enough for you, we arrived a little early for lunch but when we ordered the freshly made Broccoli and stilton soup it was no issue,... More

Nice little café/restaurant. Attractive layout, local paintings decorate natural stone walls, with a beamed ceiling. Some tables are too close together, however. A varied menu from tea/coffee, local real ale (bottles), home baking, freshly prepared baguettes and salads, and nice sweets and puddings. I had a cheese salad which was nice, but it could have benefitted from being served with... More

Baking is excellent, salads are good, fish always fresh and tasty. There's always a number of 'specials', and service is usually excellent. It's a café with aspirations and it usually achieves those aspirations - not bad to have in a village back lane!

Visited here with my family. Service was generally good and so was the food. Not overly good though. Thought it was quite pricey for what you got. Savoury chicken was nice. Cheeseburger was a bit chewy and could have done with something to accompany it other than a fruit salad.

In a Side street recommended by our hotel hostess was just the most perfect little cafe. All the locals come here, as they should. food is fresh, tea was hot and comforting, and the service was just what one wishes for.

Popped in to buy a Christmas present voucher, saw the salads and thought 'got to try them'. Returned with friends for lunch. Exciting menu, home cooked food beautifully and creatively presented. Enjoyed every morsel. High standards of food preparation, service, cleanliness and attention to detail. Not to be missed eatery. Highly recommended.
