Great breakfast

I recently had breakfast three times with a group of people as part of a stay at Bowmore Cottages (breakfast at The Harbour Inn was included in our room rates). Breakfast was buffet style for cold items with the option to also order hot items off the menu for no extra charge. The selection... read more

We really enjoyed our dining experience at the Harbour Inn. The food was beautifully cooked and prepared with an imaginative flair, using local produce. We enjoyed every mouthful and booked a taxi so we could enjoy the wine. The wine was very good indeed and rounded it off. I had the fish of the day, beautifully cooked piece of hake... More

We were a group of guys staying on Islay for 3 nights. We had breakfast here for 3 days and it was really very good. Great service too. We tried to have dinner here also but it was fully booked - must be good food for dinner! Highly recommended.

The front of the Harbour Inn belies it's interior - the bar is what you expect the dining room is not. It's light, spacious and huge picture windows allow for stunning views across the bay. The food is extremely good - fine dining at reasonable prices (compared with London anyway) and the Maitre D' is very pleasant, helpful and knowledgable.... More

Went here earlier in the week for a friends birthday. Stunning view from the dining room makes the setting very special. Very friendly and attentive staff who kindly offered a bottle of prosecco as a birthday treat. There is a £ 55 tasting menu which is accompanied by 4 whiskies but we opted for the a la carte. I had... More

We shared a plate of a dozen oysters to start and I think these were the best oysters I have had. Extremely fresh, served with a lemon, Tabasco and an onion vinaigrette, this was absolutely fantastic. Halibut and lamb for mains, again the quality was sky high. The only complaint was that maybe the mains could have been accompanied by... More

Incredibly over priced, made the mistake of think that the higher price meant there would mean we would have some cracking sea food. Sadly not! The restaurant is quite nice, a touch dated, but the food was a real let down. I had the sea food pasta for £24... if I had been paying £10 maybe, but this was just... More

Our meal was good but very overpriced. We both had the pork belly as a starter which, although nice in flavours, the Langostine was almost a pate in consistency and the crackling was not crispy at all. The 'popcorn' was an interesting addition.. The main course was lamb, which was supposed to be medium rare but I found it to... More

The proprietor was not kidding--the oysters from loch gruinart are delicious! They rival bluff oysters from New Zealand. The dining room is cosy, picturesque views of the harbor. Romantic atmosphere. My lobster pasta was heavy on the sauce, but my friend's salmon was perfect. Friendly wait staff. Definitely a destination on Islay!

We ate here twice on our visit to Islay and found the staff to be very friendly and attentive on both occasions. We had made reservations and were pleased to find we had been allocated the corner table with superb views over the harbour to Loch Indaal. The Inn is linked to the Bowmore distillery and this is reflected in... More
