Good food, sketchy service (understaffed)

Were here with friends, and had a good meal, but only one server for entire dining room, so took a while. Server seemed a little stressed and not sure if this is usual, or just ended up that way the night we were there. We did have a good dinner including crab cakes, scallops, tomato soup. If... read more

This was our best eating experience of our week's holiday on Islay. The hotel doesn't look anything special from the road...indeed we had walked past many times thinking it was just a bog standard pub until we saw an advert on the Colonsay ferry. We decided to pop in and have a look. It was very quiet on Thursday evening,... More

Having stayed as a guest in the hotel on my first ever visit to Islay I was very impressed by the food! I first visited for my evening meal most of the tables are reserved so booking is advisable in advance. The staff were friendly and showed me to a table looking out onto the bay giving a nice sea... We ate here on two occasions and were very satisfied. The view is beautiful, and the food is tasty and well priced for a hotel. Starters are very generous, and represent good value. Service is good, particularly from the new waitress. ‎Unfortunately, the whisky menu, while extensive, is also very expensive.

The food was great too , wouldn't say large portion sizes but fine for me although my husband could have eaten more, the steak and chips were lovely and cooked well just as requested.the view across the loch was great to watching two youngsters jumping in the harbour !

Huge portions...excellent menu choice...food was timely served and waiting staff were attentive without invading our table..my only criticism is the decor which is tired and dated. Hopefully new owners will bring that up to date soon...We ate in Duffies bar for lunch a few days later...haddock was cooked to perfection...

Not very good. Virtually all new staff and menu with smaller portions and less taste. Malt are smaller and prices dearer. If we wanted Mull ales we would go to Mull not Islay. Seems to have lost the plot.

A great bar and pub atmosphere. Very nice waterfront location and views. Surprisingly good food. The service was just OK - the weak link. Would recommend.

Good food. Good service. Great views. Reasonably priced. Get there early for dinner as the place tends to fill up fast.

We ate at Lochside 3 times during our stay in Bowmore. We liked the friendly staff, great food and beautiful location. We prefer a more casual dining experience and this is one of the reasons we kept going back. Tried numerous items on the menu and enjoyed them all.
