All prices on an island are inevitably inflated so it is not appropriate to judge costs against what you would expect at home. Above all the food was OK, but not spectacular. To give you an idea of costs a bowl of langoustines was £20. No salad or vegetables to accompany this dish, or even bread. The steaks were a... More

There are many lovely restaurants on islay, this is not one of them. The food was terrible. Worst steak we have ever had. Service was ok, but still had to pay £20 each for a steak that was inedible. Such a shame, this used to be a good place to go.

We went here with no booking so could not complain about being seated in the bar. Food was good and service was friendly and pleasant. Local music was advertised to start at 2030 but did not start until one hour later, a bit disappointing. But would recommend the food, and would think that the restaurant would have a lot to... More

My wife and I visited the Lochside today for lunch. We ordered drinks and both ordered the Beef Chilli Nachos. Our waitress arrived at our table with our order and apologised that the chef didn't have any sour cream as advertised on the menu and made no attempt to offer an alternative. We then asked if we could have some... More

The Lochside Hotel or Duffies Bar, has a great whisky selection of all Islay Malts and a few others. Could'nt try them all, but managed a good few. Staff were knowledgeable of all malts and provided excellent service

We didn't stay here overnight but had an evening meal in the restaurant. The restaurant was quite busy and it was easy to see why. The room has good sea views and the food was very good, with generous portions. The service was very friendly. We had researched that this hotel has an extensive bar selection and possibly one of... Booked in for Sunday evening dinner, table was in the conservatory overlooking the harbour and loch - wow! We ordered a cold starter and the mussels for mains. Mussels arrived luke warm/cold - obvously had been sitting out for some time after cooking. Complained and given one main meal reduction on bill.I got the impression from someone else that this... We had dined here a couple years back and returned on our recent visit to Islay. Good food, good service and friendly people. Reasonable prices with an view! We were staying at the Bowmore Cottages so we we ate here a couple times during the stay. I'm sure that we will be back again.
