Good wholesome food - rather dark interior - sensibly priced and good portions. Friendly staff - popular venue for family and groups. Would recommend to family and friends.

Warm September day despite gloomy sky and we stopped here for lunch. A bit disappointing decor and lighting wise but welcome and prompt, bright service. Did not like dogs being in eating place and happy Labrador was ejected when we were asked if we were ok with the it being there. Food and drink was very good, soup and sandwich... More

Visited the Cross Keys for some food and it was worth it. Staff were great and the barman was very knowledgeable about local area and gave us a couple of recommendations for places to visit. Food was delicious. Not cheap but worth it. Tomato and Basil soup was best I've ever tasted. Most dishes could be adapted to smaller portions... More

Had booked a table to treat my mother. She had been excited to go for some time. First impressions were good: authentic tavern feel, period decor. Another couple arrived at the same time, were greeted and seated, ordered and everything seemed to flow well. We were seated a few moments later (not the best table as it was at the... More

It's taken us several years to finally visit The Cross Keys for dinner, but we are already planning a return visit. We sat in the bar area (there is also a less pub-like dining room) next to the fireplace. This would be super cozy in cool weather. The bar (and dining room) have a rustic look and feel, but the... This is a nice pub, worth a visit if your in the area, however the food seemed to be of a lesser standard to the last time we ate here. My boyfriends steak was overdone and my starter of salt beef tasted like nail police remover and I couldn't eat it. Other than that my main meal was delicious as... More

Had an excellent lunch with friends. Service friendly and prompt and food delicious. On previous visits I have been disappointed with the haddock and chips the batter tasting like the cooking oil was needing changing but today's ox cheek was just mouth watering. Highly recommended

I booked a table for Mothers Day lunch recently. On arrival after driving an hour and a half to get there, we were shown to a small table in the downstairs bar area, alone, cold and dreary, while the restaurant was filled with bonhomie. I find it unacceptable to take a booking, for any day let alone Mothers Day, and... More
