Dad's birthday lunch

It was my Dad's 78th birthday so I asked him where he wanted to go for lunch. He chose The Cross Keys. It's just won the Scottish Gastropub of the year and you can see why. The pub classics of steak pie, fish and chips and stovies are all there but there is also Cullen skink risotto, roast quail... read more

We visited here recently on our way through Kippen. It was a Saturday evening and there were not many people in eating dinner at 5pm. The food was fantastic, a good choice for adults, not a great choice for children however I am sure you could ask for something if nothing was to suit them on the menu. We had... More

We have visited The Cross Keys three times now and it's an absolute must whenever we visit Scotland. The food has always been excellent, seasonal and there's plenty of it. Sunday lunch is a must, even my grouchy hard to please in laws were delighted. Welcoming, cosy and full of locals. Perfect, can't wait to go again!

Six of us and a 14 month old booked a lunch. Shortly after we got settled in the place just filled up. The lounge is quirky with odd furniture, lots of wood, a stuffed badger and some books and games. There is a generous outdoor area at the back with some kids garden playthings. Their own real ale is called... More

Lovely menu. We have been here a couple of times after walking our dogs. The dog has been allowed in and can sleep at the open fire. Another time we sat in the beer garden at the back. Lovely food - unusual. Hope to be back soon !

My husband and I look for many things when looking at pubs. 1) is it kid friendly? This one absolutely is! They have an outdoor play area that is great for 2 y/o + 2) is it fog friendly? This one is. We almost always travel with our GSD and are always looking for dog friendly places. Their local pub... More

Stayed here for one night. Really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere in the pub. The food was fantastic, really tasty and fresh. Loved that we could have our dog with us. All diners seemed to be enjoying their food too. Breakfast next morning was first class, local produce, lots of choice and freshly cooked Scottish breakfast. Excellent value for money, we... More

All you could ask for in a pub that has top beer, even better food, a beautifully decorated interior, steeped in charm & history and in a great wee village. So friendly with it's open fires when it's cold and stacks of interesting books and pictures on the walls. But to the food - wow! A nice tight menu that... More

Had high hopes after reading previous reviews however I have to agree about the cold, I'd like to eat my dinner with my jacket off. Also the dog that's wandering around...not ideal either. Food wasn't amazing and with the points above we won't be rushing back.
