Good, but not as good as the price would suggest

We were spending a few days hiking around Torridon, and booked dinner in 1887 Restaurant as a gastronomic treat. Dinner started with a drink in the hotel lounge, overlooking the hills. We had the five course meal as part of a room deal (about which I'll rave on the hotel review). We started in the drawing room, a warm, cosy place full of settees where we sat with our menus and aperitifs. As usual, I found the wine list harder to choose from than the menu. Luckily, staff weren't pushing for... More

This is not a casual restaurant. It will take time to enjoy your meal. The food is very good and the wine list was excellent for such a remote location. We enjoyed ourselves the night we dined there, but opted for the casual restaurant at the inn next door the other two nights as we felt three fine dining evenings... More

We had the 5 course tasting menu. Everything was delicious. I especially liked having 2 desserts. The service was just right too, always there when you needed it but not hanging around the table too much. The seafood was exceptionally fresh, the food all had local elements and was cooked in very modern ways. Canapes of a take on haggis,... More

The daily changing menu is modern Scottish with home grown and handmade ingredients. The dining room, offers pleasing things wherever you look, original features mix well with some of the new contemporary furnishings. A five course menu with enough diversity and depth to keep you interested. A chef slipping out of the limitations of a formula and cooking what they... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the 7 course tasting menu, and were very pleased (if not a little full) we upgraded from the 5 course menu to try each dish. All were nicely presented, with interesting flavour combinations. The beef was mouthwatering, and my favourite of all the courses. The wine menu was extensive, we could have done with a little more... More

The Torridon hotel has 2 restaurants: the 1887 and the Inn. We had dinner in 1887 and were quit pleased with the choice on the menu, albeit very traditional. Fresh local products, served with a smile. The restaurant is situated in what seems to be an annexe of the main house and lacks some charm.

We dined here in June 2015. They were running slightly behind with the food so we were offered complimentary drinks which was fine with us. Upon asking what gins they had to offer we were told "over forty!" This in itself was a result for us. The rest of the evening did not disappoint. The staff were most helpful, polite... More

We have eaten twice in this restaurant while staying in the amazing Torridon hotel. The most memorable dishes were the inspiring saviche and a wonderful sea Bass. The deserts, especially those that were called pre desserts, were fantastic. The variations on the grapefruit theme and the whisky parfait were great. Lovely dinners and wonderful, friendly, service.

A delicious meal served in a wonderful location, we felt honoured guests as soon as we entered the hotel. The only slight comment would be that the portion size of Tamworth pork we chose as our main course was a little small.
