Had a lovely two course meal here midweek. Was still busy, which is a good sign. Couldn't fault the food - venison loin cooked perfectly. Only negatives were nutty bread - we weren't told this and partner has alergy so that could have been messy! Food is locally sourced and cooked to perfection but would agree with other reviews the... Booked a table for two for 7pm and were out of the restaurant having had two courses each by 7.35pm. Shocking. We were shown to a very nice table by the window and given menus. Drinks orders placed but not given water or bread. Mentioned this when our starter arrived 10mins later but the waitress just shrugged, I had the... More

Really enjoyed a dinner here on a busy week night with my family I was up visiting. Food is equal of top city centre restaurants with reasonable prices, good wine list and prompt, friendly service. The quail starter is a must! Only slight negative is it's location, not in the hub of the village and has the look and feel... More

Excellent food, venison was particularly good as was the carpaccio of octopus. Service was faultless. Would recommend booking as even on a Wedneday evening the restaurant was full. Worthwhile making the trip to Strathpeffer for this alone.

Although we just popped in and it was past lunch time it was no bother for the chef who was finished to go back and cook us something to eat, the word "no bother" was used by our waitress when we thanked her so we thank you and the chef as it really was clear to see it was "... More

4 of us dined here last Sunday, and all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. There was nothing we could fault from the initial booking to the bill. For starters we had Scallops with pork belly and black pudding and duck risotto, both were excellent. Mains included traditional Sunday Roast, beef was cooked nice and rare and thickly sliced with excellent home... More

Just has dinner at the Red Poppy. Table of eight. Attentive staff, excellent 3 courses for everyone. All cooked to perfection. The venison was 'melt in your mouth'. Everyone at the table was very impressed with their meals. Not cheap, but not excessively expensive. Budget for around £30-35 per head for 3 courses, wine and coffees. Would certainly go back.

While visiting the Kalevra clan they booked a table for the four of us at the Red Poppy in Strathpeffer to celebrate Papa Kalevra's birthday and my sister's promotion at work. It's a smart restaurant in a pretty village. The complimentary curry bread was surprisingly nice. I went for chicken skewers in red onion and chilli pepper sauce to start.... More

I ate here with friends and my two small children for Sunday lunch and was very impressed. I ordered the scallops for starter which were amazing and the sirloin steak I had for my main course was cooked to perfection as were the accompanying vegetables. It was great value and my children enjoyed their meal chosen from the nutritious kids... More

Had a meal there before attending a concert at the Pavilion. The food was very good, but overpriced. As was the drink. £6.50 for a glass of white wine. Biggest turn-off though was margarine or some other concoction on the table instead of butter. Ugh... Staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was OK.
