We loved this hostelry in Fort Augustus sitting outside with a dram watching the Locks in action or having a meal from the extensive menu we had booked a night cruise on Lock Ness and booked a table for our return. We found all the staff very friendly and not at all rude even though it is a very busy... More

We ordered some food as a takeaway option and planned to eat it outside as the weather was nice. I asked for some cutlery at the bar but the young bartender was very rude and said I should have brought my own. I was begging at the bar returning twice. If you are a tourist you obviously do not carry... More

Nice pub by the canal with some real ale and good food. The service was good even though they were busy. I got a table downstairs, but more were available upstairs. Check to see if you can reserve a table.

First tip - either be there early or be prepared for a long wait, especially in high season. This place is rightfully popular, given its great location right over the locks that connect Loch Ness with Loch Oich. The local ale is excellent, the meal portions generous and the service reasonable given the guest load - but don't expect quick... More

The chips were good but thats about it. The spitroast chicken was aneamic, the macaroni cheese was bland and the steak burger did not taste like there was any steak in it. The staff were nice and service was good, beer was cold but overpriced. Overall a poor experience.

We arrived in Fort Augustus and the weather was amazing. We wanted to be beside the canal so chose this pub restaurant as it has the perfect tables to sit and enjoy the sun. Food was good we just had sandwiches but they came with salad and chips too yum! Service was friendly and quick too. Excellent find we will... More

Over the years we have visited the Lock Inn pub several times and also eaten there and also in other Fort Augustus pubs. In the summer the Lock Inn are regularly serving 300 meals and churning visitors out by the 1000's. Having this guaranteed income day in day out means staff now don't need to be friendly and they can... More

We arrived in Fort Augustus late in the evening after 9pm and found The Lock Inn still serving food. The menu choice is fantastic. There is a large specials board with an extensive choice. We had fish & chips and steak pie, both of which were very generous portions and cooked perfectly. Staff were friendly and attentive. Have to come... More

Visited this twice during our weeks stay in Fort Augustus. Although ordinary looking from the outside the food and service is excellent. Good quality and I can recommend the "Chicken Alba" and my wife loved the fishnchips
