Good food and lovely staff

I really enjoyed my meal here and the staff were friendly and attentive. I highly recommend the home made meringue dessert!

In 2013 our group at a great meal at Sutherland House. I loved the haggis starter. On this return visit I had the haggis, neeps, and tatties as my main course. Delicious, with a lovely whiskey sauce. We would have liked a return during our 5 night stay in Dornoch, but it had just closed for the season. But...we'll be... More

I visit Dornoch with my family sometimes twice a year and on every occasion I never miss a visit to this place. Over the years I have come to know the manageress who always remembers us, she is very attentive and its clear she values our custom. The menu has rarely changed in all my visits and this is probably... More

As regular, once-a-year for 30+ years, visitors our little party of six golfers had well-formed expectations. These were well met in terms of food, service and ambience. The size, shape, décor and lighting presided over by the long-term patronne all make for a very friendly atmosphere. Avocado "was off"! Apart from that minor deficiency everything was as it should be.... More

This is one of our favorite places when we are in Dornoch. The owners are so very nice and the food is wonderful and full of flavor - Yes, there is good food in Scotland! The fish is always fresh and the deserts are fantastic! Can't wait to visit next August.

Steak arrived burnt on the outside and the partridge arrives which was very dry and overlooked. People at next table were also discussing their " burnt streaks"..... Manageress asked how we enjoyed our food... Told her to which her reply was .. Oh not to your taste then.. No it wasn't due to being burnt and over cooked.... Has potential... More

The restaurant was full and it is no surprise, with the friendly service of the ladies. There are several steak specialties which we considered - the meat quality was very good, quite tender. There were ample servings of potatoes and vegetables to make it a filling, as well as delicious, meal.

We received a warm and very genuine welcome from the hostess on arrival and the young waitresses were all very pleasant and helpful. The restaurant has a welcoming ambience ..... a little old fashioned 'Scottish country', but nice. The menu was appealing and in general the food was of good quality and well cooked. My steak was excellent but I... More

The Mages are fussy about their food and rarely give anything 5. We had planned to eat at the Dornoch Castle, but the Mage wasn't all that impressed by either menu or surroundings. We came across this place and were so impressed we booked it for the next night as well. Immediately upon entering, we were warmly greeted and seated.... More

We had dinner three nights at the Sutherland House during our week in Dornoch. The food is well prepared and the service is great. We were very happy to see nice salads and vegetables on the menu. But make a reservation to make sure they can serve you.
