What more can I say !! Ordered vegetable soup (how can you get this so wrong?) - sour, semi warm most defiantly "off" think it must have been made several days before and left someplace warm......unedible. My two friends had the tomato soup - tasted like a cheap tin of watered down tomatoes with a pinch of dried basil thrown... More

Why did I not look at the TripAdvisor reviews before going to eat here! I have felt the need to write a review on TripAdvisor to say just don't go here. How this Restaurant is in business I will never know. My wife and I visited Appies after seeing it advertising local produce, so we were keen to visit. After... More

Thinking that Orkney is the home of good beef and crab our party of four ordered beef sandwiches and a crab sandwich. The crab was violent pink from a tin and the beef was a most unpleasant grey / sinew colour. All came complete with packet thin sliced bread. It has to be one of the worst sandwich experiences any... From a "you can sit in these tables", when we would have like to sit at the window, to the stale crab sandwiches, this was not a pleasant lunch. Also told "we don't do cream" with the cake though ice cream was offered. Not a friendly place. A couple in our accommodation had the same experience that day If you... More

since the take over with new staff the quality of food has definitely gone down. Initial waiter Service was slow, however once we had ordered, our sandwiches appeared almost immediately and I don't think they were prepared that day. The bread was stale and looked either frozen sandwiches defrosted or yesterday's stock. It is also misleading to have the previous... More

We paid Appie's a visit after picking up a leaflet describing it as 'Award Winning', but based on our experience, this was clearly some time ago (has it changed hands?). Although the location was lovely, high up overlooking the moorland, the food was frankly very poor. Everything we had was uninspiring, being more akin to something you'd expect from a... More

Beware the long drive up the track - quite a surprise at first. Tea, scones & jam were delicious with a lovely view in bright surroundings. Menu is a little pricey compared to other tea rooms on Orkney, but certainly not terribly expensive compared to most tea rooms in English tourist hot spots or the over-priced chains of coffee houses... We would have given this café a 1 star had it not been for the location which is very nice. That is as far as it goes. The place was very quiet which is not a good sign. We both ordered the crab soup from the chap with the beard who we thought was the owner. We heard what sounded... More

Appies has been a prizewinning tea room in the past but that is all gone now and it is a disaster. Like being back at school - e.g. "go to the till to pay" notice on the tables- it is a tiny place - where else would you pay? We had "a little bit of what you fancy" - cost... More

Crab soup can only be described as sour and watery, accompanied by a stale roll. Tastiest ok but overpriced.
