Description: Bistro meets bar here at Donalds, one of two dining options at the fantastic Ducks. Set in the quiet East Lothian coastal village of Aberlady, Ducks is a one time Edinburgh institution now found in more genteel surroundings and with the addition of a rather swanky little bistro. A relaxed, chilled out spot perfect for kicking back after a hard day on the range or walking the wonderful local coastline, Donalds offers chic but comfortable surroundings and friendly service whether youre enjoying a full meal or just dropping in to sample their excellent wine list and extensive collection of beers and ales. Hearty and delicious, the Donalds menu incorporates the best of British dishes with a hint of European flavour.

We only dropped in for a plate of soup which was delicious but we met with the owner and two very efficient waitresses. We realised this was a place we would like to visit again.

Two of us dropped in to Donald's Bistro at Kilspindie House in the charming village of Aberlady for lunch, and we were certainly not disappointed! On arrival, we were well received at the bar and later welcomed by mine host, Malcolm Duck, and each of us enjoyed one of their fine ales before being offered the bistro menu. My Cullen... More

Donald's offers a good quality food with a relaxed atmosphere. The range of dishes is excellent, though there is a bit of a contrast between the slight, chef-y starters and puddings, and the heavy, substantial main courses. If you know that's what you're expecting, though, you can treat yourself to a wide variety of tastes over a three-course meal, without... More

On arrival in the rear car park, the first impressions were of a tired venue to consider eating at. Upon entering the restaurant, this view didn't change. Three other covers were eating lunch as we sat down and although the menu seemed reasonable, the food was poor (my wife had bacon bone in her "bubble and squeak"!), The service too... More

If you like the latest trendy decor, this place is not for you. And if you want pie and chips pub grub, and you're not much bothered about the taste, this place is not for you. But if you like food, and people who like food, then I would really recommend this place. We had a great lunch where the... More

April 2014 We enjoyed one night at the highly recommended Ducks Kilspindie House & after a tough day at the office (ok the golf course!), what better way to relax than to sample a fabulous Fish & Chips! Haggis to start with as well - fantastic! And if that wasn't good enough, we even enjoyed a Bottle of Ernie Els... More

We stayed at Ducks at Kilspindie for my birthday and dined at Donald's Bistro. The dining room is lovely - candlelit and romantic. The staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed plump, juicy mussels for a starter (lots of the dishes are available as large or small portions) with pancetta and thyme, and delicious home-baked bread. For main we both... More

Dropped in as passing by and had seen in a hotel guide to the area. Food was beautiful, with clean tastes and reasonably priced. Staff were attentive and Chef came out of kitchen to speak with diners. Would recommend for a special occasion or anytime.
