Fabulous food but poor service

My husband and I visited the Barley Mow on Valentines day. Our table was booked for 7pm. We ordered drinks at the bar and were shown to our table for two. Each table had a single red rose and a lit candle, plus little scattered hearts 😍. We were served a few slices of fresh bread with butter once... read more

I have visited many country pubs and this one was awful. Dropped in for lunch; my partner had the steak and ale pie which was dry. I had the fish pie which was watery and completely lacked flavour- it clearly had been frozen. If I wasn't angry enough I walked past the kitchen and they were drinking pints, it was... More

We visited the Barley Mow yesterday (Sun 8th Feb) a family group of 5, for the first time since it has changed hands. The pub was busy with a good atmosphere and the log fires certainly adding to the ambience. The menu was what one would expect on Sunday, roasts with Beef, Pork and Lamb on the menu as well... More

A bit chilly in the dining room The service was a little surly For a country pub would have expected a little more choice on the ale front But the food was very well prepared and the many small plate deal was well received

We visited the Barley Mow last year with our family and were unimpressed with the late landlords, they weren't friendly or welcoming and the food was standard. But having heard that the old landlady of the Old inn Holt had over taken we decided to give it another go and wow what an improvement! We were greated by friendly staff... More

Having visited the Barley Mow with a friend during the summer, and the food and service being very good, I suggested that we had a family meal here; party of 10. On arrival the the stuff seemed unaware of their surroundings and a took some time to point us in the direction of the table. The menus were on scrappy... More

We bith ordered 'cordon bleu filled breaded chicken with a cheese and mushroom sauce with breaded herb croquet potatoes. We received un breaded chicken with fried sliced potatoe and could not taste any cheese. Our comment to the owner who delivered our food was... More

Nice location off the beaten track, pleasant ambiance with low key music so one could hear ad enjoy the conversation round the table. Food was good, plenty and tasty. Desserts a little slow to arrive. However, would definitely go back again, good value.

We visited yesterday, after taking our daughters (ages 5 & 2) to visit Father Christmas at Stewarts Garden Centre. It finished off our day perfectly. We were show to our table straight away by a friendly member of staff. The food was absolutely beautiful and relatively prompt. We could've quite happily stayed there for a lot longer than we did....
