Food - just about acceptable. Service - good. Goat's cheese lasagne, thin and shriveled. Fish - a bit soggy. Expensive given the quality of the food.

Thank you for your review. We make every attempt to make sure that all our food represents good value for money and are very sorry this did not happen on your visit. We also try to check back to make sure all is well and we are not sure if this was done. We would of course have happily replaced... More

A friend and I ordered the chicken pie, which cost £11.95. This price is scandalous for what eventually arrived; a pie that was so dry and solid that my knife would not cut through it. I went no further and returned it to the kitchen. When asked if I'd like a replacement, I replied: "not really. If this is what... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our Pub. Criticism of any kind is difficult to respond too some times but without it, it is often less easy to make marked improvements. We do take all comments very seriously and very personally so we will be making every effort to prevent such mistakes being made again. We have sold... More

Been coming here for years on annual stays in Dorset, and have reviewed it before. Visited on 3 occasions this time: Sun 3 Aug : A total shambles. Table for 4 reserved was in wrong place, service was almost non-existent and food, when it eventually arrived after over an hour, was ironically overcooked (though edible). Manager did apologise as I... More

We have sampled a few eating establishments in the area and this restaurant stands out in terms of excellent food, friendly helpful staff and ambience. The menu offered a great range of food which all arrived to a high standard. This restaurant was also happy to accommodate our dog and even gave her a dog biscuit at the end. We will... More

Lovely looking pub, staff nice and friendly however food not great. Lasagne very dry/Luke warm. Pulled pork sounded nice but was actually 3 strips of belly pork laced with BBQ sauce served on a roll (FYI chef google 'pulled pork') kids food- macaroni cheese was almost without sauce but scampi and chips were nice. All of the above cost us... More

Thank you for your feed back. The "pulled pork" dish was clearly described on the blackboard as served in a brioche bun with salad, barbecue sauce & coleslaw. It is made with slow roasted belly pork in a smoky marinade. We sliced it rather than shredded it so that it would not fall out of the bun en route to... More

We visit this pub fairly frequently because it really stands out from some of the other pub offerings in Wareham and the area. Last night my wife had the steak and stilton salad which was truly excellent with fresh salad and lean strips of steak and a good amount of stilton all drizzled with Balsamic style dressing. I ordered a... More

Shockingly bad food with bad service to match!! The quality of food is worse than school dinners, veg cooked to death, burnt pies and semi-cooked chips spoil, what could be, a fantastic pub. The service is slow and the staff surly. We refused to pay for one of our meals because it was so bad and we won't be heading... More

We are sorry that you were disappointed in your visit to The Halfway Inn. As was explained to you on the evening we had three staff call in sick at short notice and had been unable to source any replacements. This obviously led us to a lower level of service that we would have liked and we did not get... More

We passed this pub on our way to Portland last week. It looked so lovely we decided to call in on our way back to Swanage. The pub was heaving but we managed to find a table for 4. We ordered expecting to have to wait for a while because they were so busy, but our food arrived really quickly.... More

Thank you for taking the time to share your two good experiences on Tripadvisor. It is very rewarding to get good feedback even when there is sometimes a wait for food. With a freshly prepared homemade menu a wait is sometimes unavoidable, particularly at this time of year. Our staff always try to be cheerful and we are very pleased... More
