typical of an excellent Dorset Pub

I visited lunchtime with 4 friends for a birthday treat, and treat it was. Starting outside very pretty with lovely flowers then a warm welcome. Came at the last minute with 2 hungry children. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and the food was delicious. I had a vegetarian ravioli which was excellent.

We visited on a quiet Thursday lunchtime in June having previously checked to see if dogs were allowed in the pub. So, with our dog in tow we sat in the bar to the left of the main entrance and ordered two meals and drinks. We both had scampi which was bought out without a long wait and was piping... More

OK, sometimes you do things on a whim. Living less than 15 mins from this pub it's arguable that we'd probably just drive by. Well don't, this is a lovely example of a quiet village pub without the pretensions of the Home Counties but with quality and value for money In spades. Well kept beer and an excellent wine list... Great food. They accommodated 10 of us at five minutes notice. Great food, great atmosphere!! Made to feel very welcome by staff and locals alike. Very dog friendly too. Would definitely recommend a visit.

After a short walk on a summers day from Sturminster Newton, we came across the White Horse Inn. Ist good sign "Routier". Second good sign, AA listed. In the delightful garden, we ordered and had the most exquisite lunch ever. My blonde friend (human, not the Labradoodle) had Hake, with chips. I had Portland scallops, with salad. Before it arrived,... More

On a visit to nearby Maunhull on 23 July , our friend Julie suggested dinner at her local pub and what a surprise . The ambience outside with arrays of splendid coloured flowers surrounding the entrance and sides , is matched by the atmosphere , drinks and food inside . Local produce is used and I recall the Portland scallops... More

A very good pub meal and reasonably priced too. Very pleasant and helpful landlady and waiting staff. This was an evening meal for four and we were all impressed with the standard. Generous portions to the extent that none of us managed to eat three courses though starters mains and puddings were sampled. And the beer was excellent too.

We have tried many times to get a table here but always found it fully booked. At last we got a table this Sunday and could see why you have to book well in advance. The meal was delicious. I had roast beef, one son had pork, one Lamb and the other a fish gratin. Each dish had it's own... More

Somebody before me has written; "Sunday lunch is sublime" & of course, he is correct on every level about this pub & that meal. We have been back four times now for that real Sunday treat. Three of those visits we were squashed into the bar as the restaurant was full & we loved it so much that we actually... More
