Not what it once was - 2 hours for a single course

We were regular visitors to Cafe Spice before moving out of Sturminster Newton three years ago and always raved about it. We decided to take a trip back this Saturday and sadly it was lacklustre. Yep, been here before and rather stupidly came back for a second helping of " Indian Cuisine " Visited on Friday night with a friend. The food here is atrocious. My previous visit was blamed on the Chief. These people really just cant cook ! This time I have chicken tikka Vindaloo. It was awful. Certainly no chicken tikka, it... More

We moved to the area about a year ago and were thrilled to find an Indian Take-away that provided delicious food, by attentive staff and at a reasonable price. Having been cooking Indian food ourselves for over 30 years and also attending cooking courses in Kerala, it was wonderful to find a restaurant that matched our expectations. We consequently have... Staff stare and make you feel uncomfortable. Made us rush our meal so they could close an hour before closing time. 5 waiters stood at the top of the restaurant and gave me and my boyfriend dirty looks as they wanted us to leave. We ate our food and had paid in under 20 minutes One of them was even... More

Let down by another local pub for an evening meal, so decided to try the curry house. Quite quick service, although it was not busy and the food was good - slightly unusual and nice relishes with the poppadoms (were given some free to take home). Chatty and friendly staff - informative and passionate about their business. We‘re only here... More

To give this establishment a 3 would be unfair as it denotes 'average'. Café Spice is not average but in fact good, and very consistent even through different owners. The café has been around a long time, offering the range of Indian good expected at most restaurants. Café Spice is very good at what it does, offering a local source... More

This restaurant serves good, honest Indian food at the normal prices you would expect to pay. While it may not be the world's best Indian cuisine, it's certainly not the worst. Perfect for an occasional treat, quick meal out with friends or lazy takeaway, the food is tasty and varied. I happily eat here and have yet to find anything... More

This restaurant doesn't look much from the outside, but the inside is nicely done, and is bigger than it looks. The food was the real surprise, though. It was the best Indian meal we have had for some time. The garlic chicken was really garlicky and the chicken mosalla had lots of spicy flavour without too much chilli. I would... More
