Description: The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River...
The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River Exe, and is in the heart of Exmouth’s water sports fraternity, wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, sailing to name just a few, however it is also situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, protected by Natural England. Open from April to September only . The Exe Estuary is home to many rare birds and creatures including Avocets, Osprey and of course our friendly grey seal. With the potential to take up to 100 people on board the Cafe has been designed very much like the “Ski in Ski out” wooden chalets found on the ski slopes of many ski resorts, but with the intention that the quality of food and service exceeds all expectations of the external look and feel. The barge has a licensed bar and covered outdoor space with heaters and indoor seating to relax well into the evening without suffering the cold. Customers to the barge really are of all ages and walks of life, ranging from the usual river users and water sports enthusiasts to bird watchers, artists and holiday makers. Special events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, stag & hen parties to corporate & team building days can be arranged. Private and exclusive use of the barge is also available.

Been here a few times, but over the last few times there has definitely been a drop in standards with regards to food and how it is prepared / served for what we paid. New management not as welcoming, which makes it a completely different experience and leaves us wishing we'd gone elsewhere.

Visited here on a typically inclement day in August. the river taxi to the cafe takes about 10 minutes and is a real bonus, the cafe is relaxed, informal, but well run. Food is fresh, predominantly seafood, good value and the service equally good. The taxi has to be booked with the meal and is £5 return per person. We... More

Great food, ambience and service, even on a rainy bank holiday Monday! Will definitely return. The fish was very fresh and beautifully cooked. I would recommend a visit to everyone.

What a lovely evening! Fabulous food, lovely waitresses, even the weather was kind! Definitely worth a visit to enjoy being on the river and watching the world go by! We are fortunate to live locally and will definitely visit again - don't know why it has taken is so long! If you come to Exmouth or anywhere near between April... More

Had a deliciously different lunch experience as part of a surprise day out. The seafood platter was excellent, washed down with a bottle of local wine. The staff were friendly and super efficient. Look forward to our next visit.

We had heard positive comments about this place for a while; this was our first visit, went with friends. You take a water taxi about £5 return per person from Exmouth Quay, all arranged when you book your table. A lovely way to arrive. You can eat indoors or out, both good. The menu is fish focussed and whilst not... More

Went here with great friends . The experience was something different from the norm , catching a water taxi out to the middle of the Exe . But we weren't impressed with the menu . There were a few starters but they never had what we requested . The main menu choice wasn't great either . Basically your taken out... More
