Description: The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River...
The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River Exe, and is in the heart of Exmouth’s water sports fraternity, wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, sailing to name just a few, however it is also situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, protected by Natural England. Open from April to September only . The Exe Estuary is home to many rare birds and creatures including Avocets, Osprey and of course our friendly grey seal. With the potential to take up to 100 people on board the Cafe has been designed very much like the “Ski in Ski out” wooden chalets found on the ski slopes of many ski resorts, but with the intention that the quality of food and service exceeds all expectations of the external look and feel. The barge has a licensed bar and covered outdoor space with heaters and indoor seating to relax well into the evening without suffering the cold. Customers to the barge really are of all ages and walks of life, ranging from the usual river users and water sports enthusiasts to bird watchers, artists and holiday makers. Special events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, stag & hen parties to corporate & team building days can be arranged. Private and exclusive use of the barge is also available.

All logistics getting the boat across worked well with the team even giving good parking tips. Great location helped by decent weather (sat outside but sheltered from the wind). Lovely full seafood platter - now recommended to many of our friends travelling down or back to Devon.

Although we live locally we had never been to this unique restaurant that sits in the middle of the Exe Estuary. As it was our 25th wedding anniversary we decided to treat ourselves to something different. We were not disappointed. The food was first class and if you are a fish fan, then the choice is amazing. The unique location... More

Visiting from Düsseldorf my cousin and her hubbie organised this trip with a sailing friend that joined us down in Exmouth to this very special and surprising cafe - though I would tend to describe it as more a bistro! Everything was very good from the water taxi and relaxed informative "driver" around the estuary right through to the very... More

This venue was booked as a surprise for a special birthday and friendship and what a fantastic event and memory it proved to be. The trip down from Bath was very wet and the rain was heavy travelling on the river taxi but when we arrived at the restaurant everything was well worth the journey. We were met by happy... More

Birthday celebration for two, water taxi good, but once on board River Exe Cafe, disappointment after disappointment! No one confirmed our booking and lead us to a table. Eventually we announced our arrival to one of the Waitresses and asked to be seated. Once seated, had to wave to get the attention of someone to take our drinks order. Twice... More

I had my works leaving party here and what an exceptional location. There were 10 of us who were accommodated easily - plenty of elbow room and we didn't feel cramped at all. The sun was shining and although we were expecting it to be quite cool it was a perfect temperature on board and the view was amazing. I'm... More

Made very welcome at the River Exe boat cafe, what a lovely setting. Staff very attentive and nothing seemed too much trouble. Fish dish was so tasty, sat eating the delicious chocolate torte outside with the sun going down. This restaurant is well worth the boat trip which is interesting.
