Description: The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River...
The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River Exe, and is in the heart of Exmouth’s water sports fraternity, wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, sailing to name just a few, however it is also situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, protected by Natural England. Open from April to September only . The Exe Estuary is home to many rare birds and creatures including Avocets, Osprey and of course our friendly grey seal. With the potential to take up to 100 people on board the Cafe has been designed very much like the “Ski in Ski out” wooden chalets found on the ski slopes of many ski resorts, but with the intention that the quality of food and service exceeds all expectations of the external look and feel. The barge has a licensed bar and covered outdoor space with heaters and indoor seating to relax well into the evening without suffering the cold. Customers to the barge really are of all ages and walks of life, ranging from the usual river users and water sports enthusiasts to bird watchers, artists and holiday makers. Special events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, stag & hen parties to corporate & team building days can be arranged. Private and exclusive use of the barge is also available.

Unique location in the middle of the estuary for wonderful summer's evening

Water taxi to the middle of the Exe Estuary, then a lovely meal enjoying the wonderful views of the estuary and its supporting activities all around you. A place for a memorable meal / evening with the others who have discovered this magical restaurant.

Fabulous location, stunning views and an exciting river crossing by water taxi to arrive in style. Nicely grungy, surfy interior and sitting outside on warm days is great. Friendly staff, fair to good food, fairly innovative, but a bit pricy. However, well worth it for the location and experience alone.

Taking Dutch part of the family for an amazing meal. As always great food, they especially liked the trip out on the boat, the atmosphere and of course the local food, the teenager loved the fish and chips. Service was a attentive - and fun.

We have returned to enjoy a summer trip to this barge on the Exe several times since our first visit in the Spring of 2013. It has got even better. The choice of fish dishes has improved as has the quality of the cooking. The young and attractive staff work hard when the place is full but never seem to... More

This café is unique and well worth the effort to reach it. A boat trip from either Exmouth or Starcross by water taxi is needed unless you can persuade a friend to deliver you. We sailed down the river Exe from Topsham which was a wonderful way to arrive. The food is local, varied and tasty. I still don't understand... More

After all the reviews of this restaurant i was looking forward to our meal, i was visiting from Florida to see an old friend. The boat trip was fun and the location was amazing. we were shown to our table and it was squashed in a corner with the sun straight in my eyes. We were ignored for nearly 15... More

An experience restaurant that exceeded expectations in most respects. A lovely boat ride from Exmouth Marina delivered us to a floating restaurant in the middle of the gorgeous Ex estuary. Unfortunately, on the evening we booked the weather was not good enough to sit outside but this hardly detracted from our enjoyment. The service was informal and friendly and the... More
