Description: The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River...
The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River Exe, and is in the heart of Exmouth’s water sports fraternity, wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, sailing to name just a few, however it is also situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, protected by Natural England. Open from April to September only . The Exe Estuary is home to many rare birds and creatures including Avocets, Osprey and of course our friendly grey seal. With the potential to take up to 100 people on board the Cafe has been designed very much like the “Ski in Ski out” wooden chalets found on the ski slopes of many ski resorts, but with the intention that the quality of food and service exceeds all expectations of the external look and feel. The barge has a licensed bar and covered outdoor space with heaters and indoor seating to relax well into the evening without suffering the cold. Customers to the barge really are of all ages and walks of life, ranging from the usual river users and water sports enthusiasts to bird watchers, artists and holiday makers. Special events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, stag & hen parties to corporate & team building days can be arranged. Private and exclusive use of the barge is also available.

Novel concept restaurant, fresh food, good wine selection and reasonable prices.

Busy atmosphere during our visit. Fresh ingredients, prompt efficient service. Water placed on table without prompting. Overall really enjoyable. Can't wait to return again soon.

A beautiful setting, we visited twice in the summer. Our waitress was a little stern and I have to say I thought that food was more than I would suually spend, but then you do have to remember that you are eating in the middle of the estuary!! A lovely place for special occasions.

You have to book a table, then the water taxi...so it's not a spur of the moment spontaneous place to visit. Also, as its a barge in the middle of the estury, it's not really suitable for children (I don't have any so not a problem) or frail elderly relatives. All of that said, I have only ever had amazing,... More

Lovely food, brilliant location. We went on a Thursday and it was busy and atmospheric. Took very jolly water taxi back to Exmouth with another group. Rustic, seaside pubby interior like an old caravan. Our desert was slightly redolent of garlic which was obviously an error and one for which all the staff were profusely apologetic. Overall, very good night.

Was recommended to go here and it did not disappoint. Food was great and the service was fantastic. The fisherman's platter was amazing!

Booked for Lunch & although the venue is a bit different the service was slow & some of the staff didn't seem to know what they were doing! The food albeit fish & chips were over cooked & had no flavour at all & wine over priced. Overall it made a change but would probably not go again, shame as... More

Unusual venue, water taxi there, in the middle of the Exe. Great food and attentive staff. Strange to see water passing underneath your chair !!! Slight downer was the water taxi back. Miscommunication, told 8pm but turned up at 845....
