Description: The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River...
The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River Exe, and is in the heart of Exmouth’s water sports fraternity, wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, sailing to name just a few, however it is also situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, protected by Natural England. Open from April to September only . The Exe Estuary is home to many rare birds and creatures including Avocets, Osprey and of course our friendly grey seal. With the potential to take up to 100 people on board the Cafe has been designed very much like the “Ski in Ski out” wooden chalets found on the ski slopes of many ski resorts, but with the intention that the quality of food and service exceeds all expectations of the external look and feel. The barge has a licensed bar and covered outdoor space with heaters and indoor seating to relax well into the evening without suffering the cold. Customers to the barge really are of all ages and walks of life, ranging from the usual river users and water sports enthusiasts to bird watchers, artists and holiday makers. Special events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, stag & hen parties to corporate & team building days can be arranged. Private and exclusive use of the barge is also available.

Best dining experience ever?... Quite possibly!

My wife and I went for a meal here as a treat for our 5th anniversary. We were a little apprehensive boarding a water taxi for the first time ever, but were greeted by a very friendly captain who straight away made us feel at ease. After a ten minute potter down the estuary we arrived. Again... read more

The food here is brilliant but on a sunny summer evening And some large parties it was a bit difficult to hear people on your own table. The staff were excellent and even the journey on the river taxi was fun. So yes, go because the food is brilliant but remember to take your ear trumpet with you.

We had a most memorable meal for my husbands surprise 70th birthday. He didn't know where he was going until he was on the water taxi, pilot was very helpful, and even went back to pick up 3 who were delayed because of an accident on the way. The meal was excellent , and the staff very friendly, will definitely... More

What a brilliant idea! Exmouth even looks attractive from this angle. Yellowhammer beer was excellent and staff great. I will return to have a meal some time as it all looked great. Breezier than you would expect so take a jumper.

What a great place to eat. Everything ran smoothly. The river taxi was on time and the pilot was so friendly. The meal was amazing. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Thanks to the team for a great birthday party. On a great summer evening the setting was fantastic even though the blankets were in great demand for those outside. The food was fantastic. In particular the scallops disappeared very quickly, closely followed by everything else! The local Pebblebed white was also well received. We will be back.

I have eaten at the River Exe Café a couple of times before and had excellent meals. (lovely lobster, and a grilled plaice with brown shrimp butter and new potatoes, e.g) So I was expecting something similar. What a shock! In spite of the fact it was a Friday towards the end of June (holiday season under way) there were... More

Well what a meal out that was! I have never had a meal floating about in the middle of an estuary before. You get a lil boat there spend 2 and a half hours eating the most wonderful food and drinking and get the boat back. Best way to book is go onto their website and leave a message. They... More

Fantastic location and very friendly welcome from the staff. It was a lovely water taxi ride over to the restaurant as the sun was starting to set. The choice of food was good given the location, with the main theme being seafood as you would expect. The food was ok but not as special as I had hoped given the... More

A last minute recommendation from the family run Ice Cream shack on the Sea Front. What a great decision to come here. The food was excellent. Even our meateaters decided to go for the fish specials. The chorizo combination with fish really hit the spot. It is a very long drive, but we will be back!
