Superb setting and views, but pub itself is tatty and the food disappointing at the prices charged, particularly the roast which was synthetic Could be great, but toilets and extension/children’s area both are sorely in need of improvement. Owners should learn from this and previous comments made about these points; also their attitude towards their customers, which is not always... More

It makes for a fantastic moors experience - sit outside or across the road and eat good food (I had a Sunday roast that was big but perhaps the meat was a little dry) overlooking dramatic moorland.

Just stopped here for a quick half pint early to mid afternoon but it was lovely. Seating outside for when it's warm enough and various rooms inside. Although we didn't eat the food we saw going out looked good and we would definitely have been tempted to eat here if we'd been hungry. Log fires burning and we thought how... More

Great old pub. Don't be put off it being right by the busy road. Excellent views of tors and moor from the numerous benches and tables immediately outside the pub and over the road. Good beer, warm welcome, open fire (even on a warm day) good value pub grub with specials board and serving food 'til 8.00 p.m. including Sundays.... More

Its far from the madding crowd....runs on its own generators as the Dutchy who control this part of the moor won't allow wind generators. Lovely grub...beautiful fires...large view....good beer and a friendly landlord. We go up here often as its some of the best walking around and I always try and get there for lunchtime. So if you want a... More

We stopped here for lunch and enjoyed a truly traditional pub lunch. Fellow guests included walkers and dogs which adds to the cosy atmosphere. Situated just outside of Postbridge this old pub boasts the longest continually burning fire which is nice on a misty Moor day. The decor is traditional pub and has some fascinating photos of the pub over... More

Have just had a pint and pasty at this pub, and lets be frank, it's a genuine country pub. Not some tarted up place that caters for soft townies who's idea of country life comes from a glossy magazine! So it does have a real fire and smells like it. The beer is real and the food basic and edible.... More

Had a fabulous lunch here after a day driving and exploring the moors and museums. The atmosphere was great, real ales a plenty and the food was beautifully cooked and presented. Lovely friendly staff too

This is always a great place to take visitors (we live in Exeter) and we love the surrounding moorland, winter and summer. The food is perfectly wholesome; just what is needed after a walk, and the atmosphere is fine, although it can be somewhat touristy in summer (like today, with a coachload of Dutch people still having their coffees at... Beer served in good condition. Local scrumpy good flavour. Basic amenities. Expect to pay circa £25 per head for 2 courses and a drink or 2. Plenty of food and rabbit pie was certainly not lacking on meat content. Prompt and accurate service. Note : Families with children are asked to go into end family room, (High chair available for...
