Have just had a pint and pasty at this pub, and lets be frank, it's a genuine country pub. Not some tarted up place that caters for soft townies who's idea of country life comes from a glossy magazine! So it does have a real fire and smells like it. The beer is real and the food basic and edible.... More

Had a fabulous lunch here after a day driving and exploring the moors and museums. The atmosphere was great, real ales a plenty and the food was beautifully cooked and presented. Lovely friendly staff too

This is always a great place to take visitors (we live in Exeter) and we love the surrounding moorland, winter and summer. The food is perfectly wholesome; just what is needed after a walk, and the atmosphere is fine, although it can be somewhat touristy in summer (like today, with a coachload of Dutch people still having their coffees at... Beer served in good condition. Local scrumpy good flavour. Basic amenities. Expect to pay circa £25 per head for 2 courses and a drink or 2. Plenty of food and rabbit pie was certainly not lacking on meat content. Prompt and accurate service. Note : Families with children are asked to go into end family room, (High chair available for... The pub could be a fantastic place to eat, drink after a long walk on the moor. Children are only welcome in the back room away from the fire (tad cold on the moor even in August!) The loos are a necessity, but not the best. They haven't been updated in 25 years. Didn't have food due to the cold... More

A great place to drink and eat. In the middle of Dartmoor this Inn is friendly and does just what you want; providing food and drink to the weary traveller. I stopped in the middle of a walk and it was just what I required.

Great little pub with masses of character and friendly accommodating staff, no trouble at all to meet the needs for my mothers gluten free diet. Thank you very much. Hope to call again. Mrs Hogan

WHI is a lonely establishment on the top road over Dartmoor. Of geographical & historic interest - even has a book published. Full of pics, maps, photos. Welcoming chatty but efficient staff Wide menus at decent value, ditto beers. "I am told" that wild camping is quite common on the hillside up the road.

Lovely views over Dartmoor. We had a couple of drinks and dinner. The portions were huge and the food was very tasty. I had spinach and ricotta cannelloni in a tomato sauce with garlic bread and salad. It was so big I couldn't finish! The garlic bread in particular was delicious, full of flavour. A fair amount of choice for... More
