A nostalgic visit that exceeded expectations

We called in for some dinner this week after a day on the Moor. The bar staff were very helpful and the general ambience with the fire burning was appreciated on a not so hot summer evening. The food was great and the speciality rabbit pie was the best ever - not one of those puff pastry jobs... read more

We have been coming here for years. We live about 40mins away but if we come up to Dartmoor we come here. The family who run this place are always so welcoming. Yesterday we popped in after a funeral & needed a bit of cheering up & this did the job. Good honest homemade food & the Landlady came &... More

if you find yourself driving across the stunning Dartmoor this is the place to stop. Food is excellent and really not at all expensive. It's locally sourced and tastes amazing. With a drink it's about £11 per person without a pud. The landlady is so welcoming and helpful and makes you feel like one of the 'locals' if that is... More

Despite what the previous reviewer said, we found this pub to be warm, inviting, anderson very friendly staff. It only has a small bar area soon you are unlucky want serving when out is busy or a coach load arrives, it soon feels like a rugby scrum. But unfortunately these old buildings cannot easily be changed. The main bar area... More

Had the distinct mispleasure of coming here with my elderly family. The landlord was the only person taking food and drink orders because he is either a control freak or two tight to employ more staff. He was rude and unwelcoming and didnt seem bothered that customers were waiting so long just to order. To compound matters not only were... More

Called in for lunch excellent food and beer. Very relaxing surroundings and I would like the opportunity to go back for a evening meal. I'd definitely recommend a visit

TAKE the lonely central route across Dartmoor and you can start to have fanciful fears. Stir in torrential rain, low black clouds and ferocious lightning and those fears don't appear far-fetched at all. So the sight of a few distant lights was clutched almost with desperation and we needed little urging to pull over for lunch. Inside you could be... More

I loved this place so much I went there 3 times in a week. As other reviews will tell you it's nestled near the top of a moor 1-2kms outside Postbridge. It claims to have a hearth fire that has not been extinguished for 170 years. Whether true or not is irrelevant, it makes for an ambience of a by-gone... More

If you're ever driving from Moretonhampstead to Postbridge you will pass this place..perched on the side of the road with wonderful views over the moor. Go for a walk and call in for lunch as we did. Looks pretty miserable from outside but step in and you will join other walkers and their dogs in a classic little English pub... More
