Spot on!

We came to the Malt Scoop to eat and also stay the night. The staff are so friendly it felt as though we had know them for years. There is a lovely bar with wood burner giving a really nice old traditional pub feel, excellent beers (well looked after), and a varied food menu. We had dinner in... read more

We arrived and was made very welcome, food served in small but cosy restaurant. We ordered a prawn cocktail jacket potato, so many prawns!! Scampi and chicken with chips served in a bucket, good portions! Would definitely visit again.

I have visited twice in the past few weeks and was not disappointed at all! The first time I had the baked Camembert starter which was a great portion and I didn't end up having a main! The second time I had a Sunday roast, blimey it was huge! More than generous! Absolutely lovely, great service! Couldn't complain! I will... More

We have driven past a few times over the years but on the recommendation of a friend who lives in the village we decided to stop for lunch and were glad that we did. We were given a friendly welcome and the inside of the pub is lovely with lots of character. There is a good menu and it was... More

My family and I decided to visit this pub for dinner whilst on holiday because of the reviews on here. We looked at the menu online and were all excited about going. They have a seperate menu Thurs to Sun when they have a chef working. I phoned ahead to reserve a table and check that dogs were allowed in... More

This traditional pub/ restaurant serves good food in a small but charming restaurant, the welcome you receive is second to none. If you are traveling on the A386 Oakhampton to Great Torrington road in north devon it is well worth a visit, car parking opposite to the pub is signed by the entrance. Merton is worth a visit from visitors to... More

The girlfriend and I drove past the Malt Scoop a few times and on Monday night decided to nip in for a bite too eat. Firstly may I say I dont know what standard of cooking Amy D is used to who named her review 'vile evening' not being funny but your not dining at Petrus or Le Gavroche, this... More

Having sampled many pubs within the area I can confidently say that the Malt Scoop is certainly one of the best. We dined at lunch time and were the only ones in the pub; even so there was still more atmosphere than in many other rival pubs. Having recently been restored, the Malt Scoop offers really pleasant surroundings to enjoy... More

A really homely pub that is frequented by friendly locals and visitors. The beer is well kept and the food reasonably priced, tasty and well presented. The menu is fairly extensive but not so long that the kitchen is overstretched, so the food is delivered to table in good time. There are a lot of pubs in this area that... More
