Curate's Egg

Have had good and less good times here. The mood of the place and the attitude of the staff, particularly a man I perceived to be the manager, can be brusque. Food not quite as good as I had expected. Not bad on a summer evening on the drive back from the coast.

On Saturday 14th Feb I booked a table for my wife and I for a Valentine's meal at the California Inn. We were greeted by a very pleasant waitress and shown to our table. The menu which I feel was very competitively priced was interesting and offered a good choice. When our food arrived it was to the California inn... More

Been before and very good, went for Sunday lunch and the beef looked liked it had come straight out of a pre prepared packet bland and no taste and as a result won't be going back what a shame.

Firstly can I apologise for not meeting ours (& your) high standards. We pride on ourselves on our Sunday Lunch using only local Westcountry meats roasted & hand carved. All our gravy is homemade & usually packed full of flavour with the best Yorkshire puddings you will find in the area! It is only through our kitchen teams' pride &... More

As a family we have visited The California many times, never to be disappointed. Lovely relaxed setting and friendly and welcoming staff. The food is always the very best, over the years we have never had a bad meal, full of flavor and quality and always something on the menu suitable for all tastes. This is a really special venue... An old roadside country pub. Visited on New Years Day for lunch, booked ahead and glad we did as all tables occupied by the time we arrived at 13:30! Serving a good range of beers and wines. Meal service was only bar meals but the extensive menu along with the 'specials board' should cater for most palates. We has a... More

Great restaurant, expensive but worth it for a special occasion. My husband & I have been several times for our wedding anniversary.

Lovely lovely pub. Very welcoming. Many pubs have regulars who look as you walk in as if you had no right to be there but in his pub the staff were very welcoming and patrons friendly.

Called in last Sunday as we got lost on the way home from kingsbridge.met a man behind the bar and asked for a table of 7 and nothing was to much trouble. We got a table in a spare room next to the bar which was great and the children happy. One of my children is a fussy eater and... More

A main and dessert averaged around £20 per person and the food was excellent the feel of the Inn was welcoming and relaxed and good humour behind the bar. On the basis of our experience we will be back and fully recommend a visit. We ate in the rear dining room which was roomy and comfortable setting.

Had lunch today after calling in at the South Devon chilli farm. The welcome was great, the chap behind the bar was very friendly. Had a lovely pint of Jail Ale. A ham baguette which was delicious, can't wait to return to try a proper meal. The beer garden looks lovely too.
