Gordon and Jacqui are pleased to welcome you to their traditional 13th Century Country Inn.Since acquiring the Inn with their family back in August 2012 they have worked hard to return the hostelry back to it's traditional country inn ways.Nestled in 4 acres of pasture land and paddocks, just on the outskirts of the town of Chudleigh, the Inn has beautiful views looking out over the Devon hills. A real countryside location for a traditional country inn.Sit back and enjoy your drink, and a meal maybe, whilst the children can play on our purpose built play tower situated on the lawns. With a warm welcome for all - including your dogs, even your horse!Families and 'mucky boot' friendly...we look forward to welcoming you soon.

Ancient Inn

This is somewhat of an amalgam. Parts of the establishment have been 'modernized' which I feel detracts from the overall ambiance. Ask to be seated in the original inn. This was our second visit and we were seated in the 'modernized' area as we had not booked and they were busy. The food was... read more

We had good memories of a Christmas meal here a year ago so were hoping for an excellent lunch but unfortunately we felt let down for a number of factors. Firstly we were quickly offered drinks but our order took a long time to materialise. My daughter had ordered a white wine with a dash of soda but received a... More

Came on Monday 14th December for lunch, Walked in on the amazing Christmas Decorations and we were welcomed by a pleasant lady who I assumed was maybe the owner? She was delightful as was the other lady working. It was so calm and relaxed and was actually lovely seeing the owner and another girl sorting out the diary, who also... More

Thank you for your lovely comments. Jacqui, the lady you refer to in your report, is my partner of 23 years (am I a lucky man!) and she looks after the front of house. It was her and her son, Richard, my Bar Manager, who turned the pub into Santa's Grotto, didn't they do a great job. We hope you... More

this was by far the best visit. After visiting "the other place" in Chudleigh - the one that really doesn't seem to know what it is - this was an extremely refreshing change. For a Monday evening, it was surprisingly busy. Very pleasant atmosphere as you walk in and you get the impression it is a very local place and... More

Thank you for your review. I was amused by your comments. The 'older, attentive, professional and pleasant lady' is my partner of 23 years, who is so chuffed with your report. She is the one who runs the front of house part of the business, to her usual high standards. We are both passionate about the pub and take high... More

Visited the Highwaymans Haunt yet again. I have a lot of visitors and always take them there. Lovely food, very reasonably priced and so very welcoming. It is a delight for us winter or summer.

Lovely pub with a good atmosphere and great food. I found the staff to be attentive and pleasant - we were looked after very well. Set in a lovely location - would be great to return in the summer to appreciate the fantastic views.

It was a nice roast lunch! However, we were forgotten after lunch and everyone else was served and given dessert before us when we were there first. The waitress even said she didn't know how long we had been there for when she came to speak to us! The table next to us was too close and had a large... More

This is such a shame and occasionally can happen when we are fully booked and babies are involved. Perhaps I could have done something about moving you, if you only came to the bar and explained at the time, I was there most of the day. More
