Description: Gordon and Jacqui are pleased to welcome you to their traditional 13th Century Country Inn.Since acquiring the Inn with their family back in August 2012 they have worked hard to return the hostelry back to it's traditional country inn ways.Nestled in 4 acres of pasture land and paddocks, just on the outskirts of the town of Chudleigh, the Inn has beautiful views looking out over the Devon hills. A real countryside location for a traditional country inn.Sit back and enjoy your drink, and a meal maybe, whilst the children can play on our purpose built play tower situated on the lawns. With a warm welcome for all - including your dogs, even your horse!Families and 'mucky boot' friendly...we look forward to welcoming you soon.

Both myself and my family have visited the Highwayman's Haunt on many occasions over the last twenty or so years as it is in a glorious location and the food is reasonably priced and the staff polite and professional. However I was very disappointed to find that having booked a lunch there on 21 December 2014 for thirteen folk, including... More

I'm sorry about your disappointment at your party last Saturday, of which two of your 'thirteen folk' were in high chairs. I take on board your comments, but throughout December we offer a specific four choice main course Christmas Dinner, with another choice of a 2 or 3 course,(starter/sweet, including Christmas Pudding) or our normal daily menu. The Christmas offer... More

Food poor quality though pricey, took ages to arrive although the place wasn't busy, staff disinterested and unhelpful. Won't be going back.

I cannot understand this one!! Your review is dated 16/12/14 but your visit was in September. If you look at all the twenty reviews since then you're grossly outnumbered with your critical comments. The food is NOT pricey (check out our website www.thehighwaymanshaunt.com for menu prices) everyone thinks the atmosphere is great, which it is, and the staff are known... More

Glad we decided to go to the Highwaymans, its had a bit of a poor rep lately, however we were very pleased with our choice, its a great setting and the restaurant is nicely laid out with the tables not too close together, although not very busy the service and food were excellent. I would definitely recommend and will be... More

I'm not sure what you mean by 'a bit of a poor rep lately'. If you are going by the Tripadvisor scale for the last three months, we have receive 18 reviews, one of these were given three stars, which should have been five stars (due to a Tripadvisor error in counting, see my response 22/11/14), six were four stars... first time for us in this delightful old pub, we had the traditional Sunday lunch, the staff made us very welcome, fast service yet never felt rushe, along with a good pint what more could you ask from a Sunday in the West Country. Don't miss this one its a winner!

First time been to eat here under new ownership, very pleasant ambience . Friday evening we went quiet when we got there but soon stared to fill up, could not fault the service staff very good was impressed taking order from memory . We both had grilled pork chop very nice but missing the purple sprouting veg (which I believe... More

Hi there, Thanks for your kind words, sorry about the purple sprouting veg., I hope you had something else equally as tasty to replace it. See you again soon. However, have you noticed the ' deliberate mistake' from Tripadvisor? You gave us top marks (5 out of 5) for Value, Atmosphere and Service plus 4 out of 5 for Food... More

Visited with a group for a meal, having preordered our food. Nice pub / restaurant, visited on a quiet night but pleasant ambiance. Prompt service, food was nice enough though maybe not the best in the area (we were on a Wednesday night though so may not have been the full kitchen team). Would consider visiting again but maybe at... More

Thank you for your comments. Because you made a pre-order, this meant that your group would have been more than ten people. As you correctly state, a Wednesday is not usually as busy as the weekend, especially in November, and our staffing level are consequently lower. However I would like to think our food and service standards are just as... More

We stopped for lunch on a day out and intended just to have a main course to save time. However couldn't resist the dessert menu! Both courses were excellent in standard of food and value for money. The added bonus was a chat about the history of the pub with the landlord as it was not overly busy on a... More

I remember, well, me showing you around our historic premises. It is steeped in history and magic. I have endeavoured to explore the mysteries and intriguing stories relating to the pub and much of my discoveries were made by reading 'The Chudleigh Book', written by local historians, which covers many aspects and history of this beautiful building, dating back to... After entering we had to go to the bar to tell someone we'd arrived for our reserved table. Once we got someone's attention we were asked did we want a drink or to be shown to our table, to which I replied could we be shown our table and then order some drinks. The lady showed us o our table... More

I'm disappointed your Sunday Lunch was not up to your expectations. However, I questioned my staff about your comments and they do not remember anyone ever having to wait as long as you stated in your story. I was there, sat at the bar, as usual, and I don't remember a single complaint from anyone, in fact, only very pleasant... More

I visited this pub about 5 years ago and said I would never go back . At the end of October I had to meet a college and this was halfway in travel terms. What a pleasant change ,we were met at the door ,good service at the bar and a good selection of food on offer . Our waitress... More
