This small cafe is so lovely! The decor has been done extremely well, and fits in perfectly in the quaint village of chagford. The food options are very good, lots of choice and all seemed homemade! We ordered the pizzas which were gorgeous! You can't beat freshly homemade pizzas! We then ordered a chocolate dessert, which luckily we shared, because... More

A group of 6 friends, we visited Chagford following a walk near Lustleigh. We all agreed a cream tea was in order and The Birdcage looked inviting. The Devon cream teas were excellent, the scones were warm and so fresh!lots of delicious thick, yellow clotted cream! Oh so yummy! The selection of teas was very good, and used tea leaves,... More

We were so happy to share a table with a charming couple at The Birdcage when we arrived hungry and thirsty on Sunday afternoon, craving a Devon Cream Tea. The young server suggested either the Classic Devon Cream Tea, or a Savour Cream Tea, the scones for which she had just baked. My friends chose the Classic, and were delighted... More

We ordered large thin crust pizzas that were delicious, the service was exceptional from a lovely waitress. The berry smoothie was incredibly tasty. The soft drinks were a bit expensive for budget wary hikers but otherwise a gorgeous, well appointed and decorated cafe that was a very lucky find. Don't ever change!

Enjoyed a delightful picnic on a plank followed by a cream tea here.. Absolutely perfect! However, I advise not to eat for a week before visiting so as not to miss their yummy scones! We hadn't realised you could book which is advisable as it was so busy when we were there. Definitely go!

We thought Chagford would be a sleepy moorland village on a sunday lunch time, never the less we decided to book our table at the Birdcage. Luckily, as it turned out, as the place was heaving. The decor was lovely, from the wallpaper to the rustic tables and lots of cushions, and I liked the touch of the daily newspaper on... More

The coffee was the bast I've had in a long time. Nice and strong! The food that I ordered was very nice and the service from staff was friendly and catering. I will come again the next time I am in the area.

A quick coffee stop turned out the be one if the best cafe experiences we've had. I knew that Chagford had some new decent cafe's in the last few years but I hadn't expected such good coffee and choice. The Birdcage clearly knows how to make a good espresso and my wife was unusually tempted by their cream tea, mainly... More

Having never heard of Chagford before we decided to stop by as my girlfriend was keen for a cream tea in an authentic Devonshire eatery... In the square we saw a beautiful little place called the birdcage, the decor was lovely - vintage feel with cushions and plenty of comfort... so we decided to give it a try. We were... More

After a tiring day exploring the Moors, discovering The Birdcage felt like we had struck gold! The whole vibe of the place is a perfect equilibrium of chill-ax and buzzy-ness, with the chef in the kitchen busy cooking heaven sent cakes, scones, salads, soups as well as pizzas that looked so good we will be ordering some for take away...
