Melt in the mouth and friendly

Was so impressed with this tiny unlicensed place. I had roast lamb which was amazingly tender and delicious. Served with parsnip chips, various potatoes all cooked to perfection and smooth celeriac cheese. Bread and butter pudding was also divine. A lovely place.

If you get the chance, eat here. The food is delicious and brilliantly cooked. The fact it feels like someone’s front room may put some people off but if that doesn’t bother you, you’ll be in for a real treat. The service is very friendly and intimate and as it’s unlicensed you get to bring your own.

Our first visit to Chagford, which is lovely. Whiddons was warm and friendly and the service was excellent. We both had lunch which was freshly cooked and very good indeed.

Had lunch there recently and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cooking and the menu. The service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere relaxed. It is surprising but very welcome that they do BYO which should be the policy in most other eateries around the country. We are told that restaurants make their profit from the... More

We have eaten here many times and generally book our next visit as we are leaving. We have never had a bad meal, in fact every meal has been exemplary and it's always a pleasure to return to such a warm and welcoming ambience. An absolute must for all.

Had a Sunday Lunch here and enjoyed it so much that we booked a second visit immediately. The food is very tasty english cuissine served in what feels like the front parlour of a family home. There wasn't a duff course among the twelve we had over our 2 visits. Given the very reasonable prices being able to bring our... More

We went on a cold and blustery November evening, the welcome we received soon thawed our bones. What a lovely quaint family run place to eat. It may have a small menu, but it's well thought out and scrummy. I had pan seared pigeon breast on smoked crispy bacon starter, guinea fowl served with a delicate mushroom sauce and an... More

Stopped here for Sunday lunch, and just how do they do it? My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The restaurant was fully booked (and deservedly so) but our lunch was served promptly with great presentation and attention to detail on the plate. Cannot praise this highly enough. The vegetables were the most imaginative we have eaten. It is... More

Whiddons is a cozy little eatery with Tina providing attentive service and very good food. It is BYOB, which we like, and can buy the appropriate wine at Best Cellars nearby after looking at the menu in Whiddons window. My husband had a starter of mushrooms and I had a smoked haddock with quail egg starter. Both were delicious. We... More
