Comfortable weekend

This hotel is very comfortable and the staff are lovely, nothing too much trouble. They have done up the library, lounge area and introduced a coffee/tea room with nice bench window seats overlooking the bay. Our only criticism is that the menu needs to change more often. This is our second... read more

Had two superb evening dinners in this restaurant was staying at the hotel. Both nights I ate fish - Dover sole on the first evening, and the house fish and chips on the second. Food and service were great - barman Greg was helpful with aperitifs and his waitress colleagues in the restaurant couldn't do enough to help. I would... More

Refurbished since my last vist and all the better for it. Now a steakhouse offering excellent quality food at a very affordable rate. Our party of six enjoyed four of the Argentinian steaks all of which were prepared as requested, one Chicken option and one vegetarian also very good. Staff were also excellent. Final food comment - "one of the... More

Thought we'd try the seafood at this restaurant and booked for evening meal, but were not told that there would be a set menu. Very disappointed as there was only one fish dish on the main course choice. No vegetables or greenery to be seen either. The menu said duck with potatoes and the fish was seabass, clams and potatoes.... More

Booked for Sunday lunch. Lovely restaurant in stunning surroundings, sadly the food and service is sadly lacking. Main course arrived followed approx 10 mins later by the vegetables. 1 person in the party ordered Apple crumble, which was only partly warm,so it was sent back, also, they must have the smallest ice cream scoop known to man, either that or they use a teaspoon.!!.

Fantastic afternoon tea today. Sandwiches were plentiful, fresh and very tasty. Cakes were traditional but with a pretty twist and the scones large and moreish! Of course having Guernsey cream helps! Without being intrusive the lady looking after us made sure our coffee/tea pots were kept topped up and could not have been more helpful. The setting of this hotel... More

New decor in Ocean is very well done, loving the sea / beach theme. A la carte menu quite limited (had tried to book for the Rock Garden upstairs but it was full) Found a terrace menu so asked if we could order from it - this option had not been offered. Service was very good, staff polite and attentive.... More

The staff here in 2014 are much friendlier and more professional than in previous years but the reviews are accurate - it's a little hit and miss. Breakfast was always spot on apart from the coffee. A fresh caffetiere would be preferable than the coffee served. Dinners were very mixed - the lobster seafood cocktail was delicious as was chilli... More

Don't bother ...... Burnt scallop starters, 20 min wait for main which has no veg, roast potatoes were old and hard. Crust on salmon was very salty. No cutlery or bread on table and when asked if everything was ok by waitress, she did not know how to deal with answer. Won't be back again in a hurry.

Scollops over cooked and very small portion. Main course plates not cleaned. Service shockingly bad. No cutlery. Roasted potatoes cooked yesterday. Hard and reheated. No vegetables. Not even got to pudding yet!!!!
