Description: Steve Smith at Bohemia receives rave review from one of the world’s top...
Steve Smith at Bohemia receives rave review from one of the world’s top food critics July 2013Steve Smith and his team at Bohemia are over the moon as the Michelin-starred restaurant has been scored 16/20 by food critic Andy Hayler on his acclaimed food review website andyhayler com Bohemia is one of only 20 restaurants in the UK in the last year to be awarded such a high score beating several 2 Michelin star restaurants like Joel Rubicon and Michael Wignall at the Latymer.Andy Hayler is one of the world’s most respected food critics and the only man to have eaten in all three Michelin star restaurants across the globe in just one year.Interestingly Hayler is also one of only a handful of critics who never accepts a free meal, always covering the cost of his meal, he ensures that his reports are fully subjective. When at Bohemia Andy Hayler opted for Steve Smith’s pescatarian tasting menu, though he swapped one course in order to try some meat as well. His review describes each dish in detail commenting, “Lobster with pea purée was served with pistachios and smoked butter foam. This was a very good dish, the local lobster tender and the pistachios adding a useful texture contrast.” And; “I had chicken with girolles, pea purée, sugar snap peas, mushroom purée and a Madeira sauce. The chicken, unlike so many served on restaurant tables in Britain, had good flavour, the sauce lifted the dish and the pea purée was also good; seasoning was very accurate, as it was throughout this meal.”He summarises the experience by saying, “This was an excellent meal.”Commenting on the review Bohemia Head Chef Steve Smith said, “I am absolutely thrilled that Bohemia has been rated so highly by such an acclaimed food critic as Andy Hayler. It is pleasing to know that our ethos of looking after our guests, offering quality and value for money; and on a technical level focusing on precision, balance and depth of flavour is recognized as the key to an outstanding dining experience.”In recent years Jersey has struggled to gain the attention and recognition afforded to other destinations by leading food critics. However it seems that the tide has now turned and not only are critics visiting the Island but its superior establishments are making an indelible mark as demonstrated by this latest achievement for Bohemia.Lawrence Huggler owner of Bohemia added, “To see the fantastic feedback Steve Smith and Bohemia has had from both locals and visitors to Jersey has been amazing and to then get a review from not just a world leading food critic but one whose reviews I personally respect so much is particularly special. Steve’s team in the kitchen and Dimitri’s front of house team have really raised the bar in Jersey and it is great to positive recognition of this.”

Good food and excellent service, albeit a bit pretentious

We had two of the eight course £75 tasting menus, I had the standard and my partner had the "pescatarian". We very much enjoyed the food which was very good. There was a selection of wine that was reasonably priced, considering that it is a pretty expensive restaurant. The service was impeccable... read more

We had booked as a group of 3 friends for afternoon tea as a treat. Having arrived on time we were initially ignored then pointed in the general direction of our table. Only 2 menus were given to us and we had to ask for a third. The pot of tea arrived and was poured into our cups as well... More

An unusual experience for us - we had the 7 course Prestige Menu with wines. Definitely had food I would never have chosen - oyster, eel, scallop - as well as lamb. Lovely touches of amuse bouches to start with our cocktail - cheese pastry, mushroom served on a stone, pork meatball. Service was at a lovely pace and they... More

Not sure I can compliment the meal and experience enough. We had the 6 course taster menu with each and every course explained by one of the knowledgeable waiters. Each course was amazing and has to go down as one of the best meals I have ever had. The atmosphere was very relaxed and although upmarket it wasn't stuffy nor... More

My wife and I are staying in the hotel, enjoy fine dining, and so had the six course surprise tasting menu last night. Even measured against the best restaurants in the world, we had a damn fine meal. Six courses should be plenty for most people, and by leaving the selection in the hands of the chefs you'll get to... I went for lunch with a large group, we had the six course tasting menu that's is seved at lunchtime on Saturdays. The food was superb, I have been before but the menu has changed and it was as good as ever and excellent value for money, I loved the celeriac purée and scallop dish. The staff and the service... This very upmarket restaurant specialises in taster dishes. And they are superb. The staff are ultra professional - you feel you are being fussed over in the nicest of ways. Everyone was attentive and very knowledgable. A vast range of wine with prices which run from a bit high to phenomenal. It's not about being filled up, it's about entertainment... More

We chose this venue to celebrate an important anniversary, having been wanting to experience Steve Smith's Michelin stared food for quite some time. From the first minute the serving staff could not do enough for us.. They have a number of different menu's, we chose the classic dinner menu, the highlight were many.. like my wife's starter, duck salad with... More

Celebrating my husbands birthday, I had preordered a cake. We arrived and were seated in the bar where our menus were offered for us to choose our dinner (a little strange we found but that seems to be the norm in Jersey). As we were dining there, with our drinks came our amuse Bouche which was a nice selection of... More
