Description: Steve Smith at Bohemia receives rave review from one of the world’s top...
Steve Smith at Bohemia receives rave review from one of the world’s top food critics July 2013Steve Smith and his team at Bohemia are over the moon as the Michelin-starred restaurant has been scored 16/20 by food critic Andy Hayler on his acclaimed food review website andyhayler com Bohemia is one of only 20 restaurants in the UK in the last year to be awarded such a high score beating several 2 Michelin star restaurants like Joel Rubicon and Michael Wignall at the Latymer.Andy Hayler is one of the world’s most respected food critics and the only man to have eaten in all three Michelin star restaurants across the globe in just one year.Interestingly Hayler is also one of only a handful of critics who never accepts a free meal, always covering the cost of his meal, he ensures that his reports are fully subjective. When at Bohemia Andy Hayler opted for Steve Smith’s pescatarian tasting menu, though he swapped one course in order to try some meat as well. His review describes each dish in detail commenting, “Lobster with pea purée was served with pistachios and smoked butter foam. This was a very good dish, the local lobster tender and the pistachios adding a useful texture contrast.” And; “I had chicken with girolles, pea purée, sugar snap peas, mushroom purée and a Madeira sauce. The chicken, unlike so many served on restaurant tables in Britain, had good flavour, the sauce lifted the dish and the pea purée was also good; seasoning was very accurate, as it was throughout this meal.”He summarises the experience by saying, “This was an excellent meal.”Commenting on the review Bohemia Head Chef Steve Smith said, “I am absolutely thrilled that Bohemia has been rated so highly by such an acclaimed food critic as Andy Hayler. It is pleasing to know that our ethos of looking after our guests, offering quality and value for money; and on a technical level focusing on precision, balance and depth of flavour is recognized as the key to an outstanding dining experience.”In recent years Jersey has struggled to gain the attention and recognition afforded to other destinations by leading food critics. However it seems that the tide has now turned and not only are critics visiting the Island but its superior establishments are making an indelible mark as demonstrated by this latest achievement for Bohemia.Lawrence Huggler owner of Bohemia added, “To see the fantastic feedback Steve Smith and Bohemia has had from both locals and visitors to Jersey has been amazing and to then get a review from not just a world leading food critic but one whose reviews I personally respect so much is particularly special. Steve’s team in the kitchen and Dimitri’s front of house team have really raised the bar in Jersey and it is great to positive recognition of this.”

Bohemia is one of Jerseys premier "fine dining" establishments, and is priced that way. The "taster menu" that myself and my wife had was 8 courses and cosy £75 per head. Add on a bottle of wine and a couple of coffee's + tip, and it was £235 for 2 people. On saying that it is a food experience and... More

We went last night to Bohemia for our first meal on our break in Jersey - Having a husband as a chef it is always a challenge to find somewhere perfect and this certainly hit all the boxes. Had outstanding food from the prestige tasting menu with alterations made due to oysters and cucumber not being a favourite so we... More

Can't say more than that really.. fantastic on both fronts and organised like a well oiled military machine. All the food was great but the raspberry dessert my wife proclaimed to be 'to die for'

We arrived early and had a drink in the bar, the staff were very attentive and brought out the menus to look at while we had our cocktails. We chose the mystery tasting menu which comprised of 6 courses. It was definitely an eating experience with each course beautifully presented, the waiting staff were very good and made it more... We visited Bohemia for a late valentines day treat in February this year after being recommended by a friend whom had also recently visited. We had made a reservation but when we arrived we were the only people in the resaturant area (the bar was quite full) and were later joined by just one other couple. I personally like a... More

We had lunch here see the photograph. The Belly Pork was like two fish fingers, the purée was black pudding the garnish was figs. Just didn't work as a combination. Not somewhere we would recommend or return to. There are lots of fabulous restaurants in Jersey and this one is playing with food rather than providing a decent honest meal.... More

Service - people knowledgeable, polite/helpful. Food - I have had the privilege of many Michelin star restaurants, what made this stand out to me were the combinations of tastes on the plate - just simply delicious. Wine - top notch. Even though the menu says 59 pound each by the time you add drinks, mandatory service charge etc you pay... More

Visited Bohemia for lunch on a recent day trip to Jersey (booked about 2 weeks in advance), and had the mid-week set menu. The set lunch, at £24.95, is tremendous value for money, with every plate beautifully presented, well seasoned, and perfectly balanced. The restaurant has a good selection of wine by the glass, and I had a couple of... More

The food here is in another planet. We ordered off the a la carte menu 4 courses for £59. It's better than that because the amuse bouche is a starter in itself. We went for fish dishes which had tons of flavour, oolour and were absolutely gorgeous. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced and the Maitre D had... More
