Description: Steve Smith at Bohemia receives rave review from one of the world’s top food critics July 2013Steve Smith and his team at Bohemia are over the moon as the Michelin-starred restaurant has been scored 16/20 by food critic Andy Hayler on his acclaimed food review website andyhayler com Bohemia is one of only 20 restaurants in the UK in the last year to be awarded such a high score beating several 2 Michelin star restaurants like Joel Rubicon and Michael Wignall at the Latymer.Andy Hayler is one of the world’s most respected food critics and the only man to have eaten in all three Michelin star restaurants across the globe in just one year.Interestingly Hayler is also one of only a handful of critics who never accepts a free meal, always covering the cost of his meal, he ensures that his reports are fully subjective. When at Bohemia Andy Hayler opted for Steve Smith’s pescatarian tasting menu, though he swapped one course in order to try some meat as well. His review describes each dish in detail commenting, “Lobster with pea purée was served with pistachios and smoked butter foam. This was a very good dish, the local lobster tender and the pistachios adding a useful texture contrast.” And; “I had chicken with girolles, pea purée, sugar snap peas, mushroom purée and a Madeira sauce. The chicken, unlike so many served on restaurant tables in Britain, had good flavour, the sauce lifted the dish and the pea purée was also good; seasoning was very accurate, as it was throughout this meal.”He summarises the experience by saying, “This was an excellent meal.”Commenting on the review Bohemia Head Chef Steve Smith said, “I am absolutely thrilled that Bohemia has been rated so highly by such an acclaimed food critic as Andy Hayler. It is pleasing to know that our ethos of looking after our guests, offering quality and value for money; and on a technical level focusing on precision, balance and depth of flavour is recognized as the key to an outstanding dining experience.”In recent years Jersey has struggled to gain the attention and recognition afforded to other destinations by leading food critics. However it seems that the tide has now turned and not only are critics visiting the Island but its superior establishments are making an indelible mark as demonstrated by this latest achievement for Bohemia.Lawrence Huggler owner of Bohemia added, “To see the fantastic feedback Steve Smith and Bohemia has had from both locals and visitors to Jersey has been amazing and to then get a review from not just a world leading food critic but one whose reviews I personally respect so much is particularly special. Steve’s team in the kitchen and Dimitri’s front of house team have really raised the bar in Jersey and it is great to positive recognition of this.”

A client booked this restaurant for lunch on Monday and based upon previous meals in Jersey, I wasn't expecting too much. How wrong could I be! The meal, wine and service were outstanding and all four of us commented on the quality of the experience. I enjoyed sweetbreads then venison washed down with a simply wonderful Oregon Pinot Noir. Spent a very pleasant evening here whilst on a visit to Jersey, with my wife and two other couples. We chose the secret menu and our taste buds were treated to a series of delights with every course. A truly memorable meal, with fine wines at reasonable prices. Excellent service without pretentiousness. The only negative was the, at times intrusive,... More

Bohemia was the first of our Michelin Experience on Jersey. We arrived for some cocktails before dinner, which were served in the bar. Whilst we considered the menu, we were served the light bites; the highlights of which were the pork roll with Apple puree and a blackberry jelly with mackerel with caviar on top served in a caviar tin.... But less than very good that my 4 star review suggests. This was my first visit and went with 4 others. The tennerfest menu in the bar is small but adequate. The food and service was great. The price point of the menu at 2 courses for £15 was also very attractive. Whilst we would not have had any problem... More

We went to Bohemia for a close friend's birthday. We had a private dining room for about 14 people. Although had an enjoyable evening, which was due to the excellent company, there were several issues which were disappointing. I couldn't understand why there were no side plates for the bread that was served. It was served before the starters, which... More

Ate here during Tennerfest and had a very nice meal in the less formal surroundings of the bar. service was excellent. I liked the attention to detail and the manner in which food as laid out thoughtfully on plates. very enjoyable if not the cheapest, however i do think it was value for money.

The tasting menu was simply wonderful. There were no weak spots. Not a single one. From the hot, fresh bread rolls with smoke butter through to the desert it was elegant, beautifully cooked, gorgeous combinations of flavours and textures and presented with delightful service. Eat this menu before you die!

We decided to go to Bohemia so we could check out a Michelin starred restaurant that seemingly wasn't too expensive. Not impressed! The following week we went to The Maitreya Social in Bristol so I will compare the two. Bohemia serves brasserie style in the bar and a set menu in the restaurant - this was not made entirely clear.... More
